I have just fried the fourth cordless system that V-tech has sent me. This is getting ridiculous. So I am in the market for a good phone that I can have at least two or three handsets. I am not yet running a wireless network so the whole 2.4Mhz thing will not be an issue at this point(but may be in the future). Anyone have any luck with any phones that they care to comment on?

DON'T buy Uniden xxGhz phones, they suck.

I've have good luck with Panasonic. I've currently got two different 2.4GHz Panny systems in my house - one older single handset system with answer machine, and one newer dual handset system that could handle a third phone. Although they don't integrate into one cohesive system they do interoperate well without interference. (I still need to use both base stations, and picking up a newer handset wont automatically kill the answer machine if it's already picked up - I'd have to 'flash' the line).

I also haven't noticed any problems with my 802.11b network either. I occassionally get intereference from my neighours two doors up the road (really should change my channel!), but never from the 'phones. My inlaws have a Uniden that would kill their 802.11b network the moment they used it. Even when I tried different network channels the issue didn't disappear completely.

I had an interesting discovery with my 2.4ghz cordless phone. If you're talking on the cordless and playing GameCube with the wavebird controller, you get bursts of static each time you press a button or move the joystick.

I'll second the Panasonic phone recommendation, but add that you should probably stay away from their low-end stuff. Then again, if you're looking for a multi-extension system, that's probably not going to be an issue.

I just wish people would make ergonomic phones anymore. The old AT&T/MaBell phones from the 60s were the best design -- easy to hold, never pressed up against your cheek or too far away from your mouth. Everything since then has been the suck.

You know, it shouldn't be too hard for somebody to wedge cordless phone guts into a traditionally shaped business phone handset. You'd have to use a more expensive lithium-ion battery to get long talk times without a bulky battery pack, though.

Incidentally, when Googling for cordless phones, I found what looks to be a semi-decent vendor: Cordless Phones America carries phones from all the usual suspects in all three major frequency bands. Probably one of the more unusual phones I've seen there is this $70 Uniden "submersible" cordless phone.

When you absolutely, positively, have to take a bath and make a phone call at the same time.

I lost a "few" phones while in the spa over the last couple years. Woulda been nice to have a submersible in those circumstances I guess, even if it was a Uniden.

If money is no object, check out Bang and Olufsen's new Beocom phones. Yes, they are pricey, but I hear they are really good from a quality of sound perspective. They LOOK great too.

I guess it's a matter of taste. Because I think most of what B&O produce looks terrible. And none of their equipment is up to high-end status. Sure, better than Walmart brands, Juttan, etc... But they don't provide the quality they should at even half their retail prices. I wouldn't trust the phone when compared to those of leading phone specialty manufacturers. (though they're likely OEM'ed guts of course)

I'm currently using the Siemens Gigaset 4000 Comfort cordless phone series, and this is one sweet phone. I use it a lot (at least one hour/day), and I've never had any problems with it. You can connect up to seven phones to the base station. I'm using two now, and it works great.
One function of the phone I'm particulary fond of is the hands-free function. It's so good even that I NEVER phone with the phone to my ear anymore. Ever. I can walk 2-3 meters away from the phone, talk at a normal volume and the person on the other side of the line won't notice that I'm talking hands-free. Truely great stuff, I can't recommend them enough!
