Thanks, got one!

BTW, This price is only good through "Dell Small Business", be carefull not to click on Home Office or Large Business when the search returns what it found. If you do. you'll end up paying $199.

Hm, but what are those drives under the Dell branding? Are they the Hitachi / IBM's or Fujitsu's that work with empegs so well? (it is Fujitsu, right?) I wonder if the empeg is as pickey with these newer different-brand drives.

Greetings!

Last time I bought from Dell in this manner, they were the IBM/Hitachi variations. I am not sure about this round, though.

FWIW, I have IBM drives in all my Empegs and have had NO problems . I've only had one drive give me any issues and it was a Toshiba.

My dead drives, and those from units I've repaired for others, are all IBMs.

That also applies to Desktop drives, too.

I've always heard bad things about IBM WreckStar's on the desktop. But, I also heard that they were just Western Digital's; my personally most trusted drive. The IBM's are right up there with the Quantum LeadFoot's (namely in old Gateways) that always blow a chip on the underside. But I digress...

They were victims of "bad plastic" used on certain chips for a couple of years back.. there was a big writeup about it not so long ago.

Cheers

This is definitly not true. IBM had their own storage research division, and made their own drives. Recently, they sold that division to Hitachi.
