No, you don't milk it!

I DJ'd a club night on Friday, and some drunk girl spilled her beer on my table, nearly drenching my notebook and empeg. I managed to save them, but my mouse and mouse pad ate it.. The mouse "works" but the buttons are hard to push and seemed gummed up. Anyone have any idea on how to clean this thing without ruining it? It's not a cheap mouse, so I'd like to at least try.

Shouldn't be that hard to do. Most mice have some of the screws underneath the big label on the bottom. Open it up whilst making sure nothing goes *PING* and clean the plastic parts in some water. Wait for it to dry and put it back together.

Hopefully none of the sticky drink has made it into the switches or electronics.

I've heard of keyboards that were salvaged by being put thru the dishwasher.

Yeah but I don't think putting a mouse (optical or mechanical) into the dishwasher would be too good afterwards Can't really do that with some of the newer cheap and nasty keyboards as the rubber membrane key domes would trap the water and it'd never dry.

In the future you might want to take something disposable to place the empeg on so a table flood wouldn't affect it (or the dock). Blocks of wood are cheap

There is a better chance of fixing it by carefully taking it apart and cleaning it. All depends on how much your time is worth. Cleaning a keyboard would take ages just to pop off and clean each keycap. Cleaning a mouse is much easier.

Yeah, like they said: Careful dismantling is the key. I wanted to add: Cleaning materials should be isopropyl alcohol, tissues, and cotton swabs.

"Ok, uh, we found this mouse in a bottle of Elsinore beer that we bought at your beer store, eh? And we heard that when that happens you get your beer free."

Sorry I had too..

If it's like most mice, it all should come apart easily with one or two screws. I wouldn't put water through it. Isopropyl alcohol from an aerosol should blast out the switch contacts and clean the sugars off the sensors. Was it a ball or optical mouse? An optical mouse might just need some cleaning of the lens, otherwise the ball mouse will need cleaning of the detectors and bearings.
don't forget to see if there's any build up on the hinging parts of the buttons.
At least if it continues to play up you can just pass it off as a drunk mouse.

When my notebook-keyboard was flooded with beer, i dismounted it and cleaned it under flowing water (hand-warm) for some minutes, then i dryed it with a hairdryer with enough distance to not overheat it for alt least 10 -15 minutes. It works again for half a year now without problems.
The only problem with a mouse could be water in the switches, where it won't dry out. You could try to use air-pressure for them...

He has the Empeg safely esconsed in a Home Dock, so it is already about as well protected as it could possibly be in this application!

Cheers

Yeah, but does he want his dock beer-stained?

Perhaps something along the lines of a sneeze guard?
