I've been leaving my empeg in-car more often these days (and, no, I don't want to hear everyone's admonitions), and I've noticed something odd. Every time I turn the car off, the empeg shuts down to blinking-LED mode. I don't remember what I have the full turn-off time set to, but it's longer than I'm willing to wait around and watch. Everything seems right so far.

The thing is that, occasionally, I'll come back to the car after a good period of time, certainly longer than the turn-off time, and the empeg will still be blinking. This happens maybe 10% of the time. Even less often, maybe 2% of the time, I'll come back and the empeg will be caught in a boot-up loop, where it will show the logo, do some startup stuff and then, apparently, crash, then start over again.

To be clear, I make sure that every time I turn off the car that it does go into standby mode. And most of the time, it works right. But every once in a while it does not. I don't currently have any idea why, once it's seen that it needs to turn off, that it would not. It's not as if it's not getting the signal from the car. I understand even less why it'd be in a booting loop, as what would have caused it to boot up in the first place from standby/shutdown mode?

Any ideas?

Greetings!

I have the problem where it stays in standby mode. What I find unusual is when I do a lot of maintenance on it (sync, disk checks, even a lot of console work) it seems to improve for a few days. I have never had a boot loop problem.

When was your last fsck and kernel flash?

Updated hijack two or three weeks ago. Not performed a manual fsck in forever. I suppose I could give it a shot.

Just set the standby timeout (or whatever it's called in Emplode) to 3-4 seconds, and then watch and see if it turns off completely 3-4 seconds after shutting off the ignition. If not, there's a hardware fault most likely -- other threads on the BBS have covered this (and the repair) previously.

Cheers

I have the same problem. Every once in a blue moon, I'll come back and it will actually be playing (silently, since my empeg goes into the AUX of my regular head unit.) I've noticed it only since I put V3 Alpha7 on my player (although it could have been happening before that.) Any chance you're running the alpha too?

Nope, and I don't think I've ever seen it playing. At most, just the boot loop.

on occasion, i've noticed that my empeg will not turn off at all, and i will return to the vehicle to find the screen still active.

it's only happened about three times that i can think of, so it's not too many.
