I'm a bit new to this so you'll have to forgive me. I just received my first Rio Receiver yesterday, but the standard Receiver software that came in the box seems to be hosing my system. After installation and reboot, the software seems to lock up my mouse. Upon reboot into safe mode, I uninstalled the Reveiver software and rebooted. Everything seemed to work fine for a few minutes until my machine decided to mysteriously reboot itself. Anyone else had this problem? My machine is now prone to reboot itself in unopportune times.

If there is already a thread out there concerning this topic please direct me to it.

I'm running:
Athlon 1700XP
Soyo Dragon mobo
512MB DDR SDRAM
40GB HD
Win2k

Thanks.

As far as I know, the Receiver software shouldn't cause the behavior you just described. Especially since you uninstalled it.

Perhaps it's just a coincidence? Or maybe it's something related to the wiring? Did you plug anything new into the PC as part of installing the Receiver?

I realize that it could be a myriad of things, but my computer has been running rock solid up until this point. I'm current in all drivers, anti-virus software, and Windows updates.

I did install the HPNA card (Rio Connector) that came with the Receiver, but my mobo has a built in ethernet port onboard. Do you suppose the two are butting heads?

Possibly. Just for the heck of it, try unplugging the HPNA card and see if that temporarily solves the problem.

If it does, then it's up to you whether you want to troubleshoot the HPNA card, or leave it out and just run ethernet to the receiver.

Already done. So far, my machine has been running smoothly. I may backup some crucial items and then make a go at troubleshooting the HPNA matter. After all, if I get it worked out, I can offer advice to future Rio owners that may have this problem. It would be worth my while, as well, as my house has plenty of phone jacks and not a trace of Cat5.

I run Windows2000 and the software that came with the receiver didn't work. The latest software is here:
ftp://ftp.diamondmm.com/pub/multimedia/rio/receiver/

You want the file called mercury_v103.exe

Which version of the BIOS do you have on that Dragon Mobo? I had random reboots with my 1600XP until I installed the 2ba2 bios. I know there have been plenty of updates since...

Thast for a dragon plus, not the original dragon.
