I've read an announcement on a page about the NEO 35 MP3 player. Don't know if this player is allready discussed here, so if it isn't i would like to know what you guys think of it's features and the price you pay for them... Neo 35 PlayerTino

It's been discussed a few times. Having played with one at IASCA I would conclude that it is designed from a different perspective and targeted to a different audience than the empeg car player.

Whit what perspective was that designed?
I'm very curious... I've been meaning to buy the Empeg for a while now, but the Tax i got to pay in The Netherlands are killing me :( I don't own an company so i can't deduct the VAT on the Empeg :(
So i'm kinda searching for a cheaper solution...

I don't know, perhaps toward people who want a piece of crap. Rob can't say that, so I will . Honestly, just look at the thing. Read its specs. Compare it to the empeg - It doesn't. DiGNAN

Do a search on the ICE forum and you will find a previous thread on the neo.

I'm can't believe i'm saying this... but i will. I was discussing this with a friend back home that wants an empeg but can't afford one, so is looking at the neo35. I tried for an hour to compare them until i realized you can't... they are, like Rob says, targeting a different market. They are after kids and geeks who just want an MP3 player that plays their music without much regard to sound quality or overall quality for that matter. The price point is so much lower, it's damn near impossible to not be able to justify buying one if all you want is a large capacity mp3 player and aren't an audiophile. Believe me, i tried forever to layout every benefit the empeg has, and after owning one for 3 months, i can verify it's quality and strengths. The one thing that is hard to explain that the empeg holds over every other product is it's support and the continued commitment of it's makers to make the best frickin' peice of hardware they possibly can and not cut corners. My buddy said flat out, that if the empeg dropped to $600 to $700, he knows he'd buy one cause he knows they are worth that much over the $300 neo. Hopefully the S3 situation will help out soon and the pricepoint will drop, and more people will be able to see the light that is empeg. So for now i'm stuck feeling just like i did when i was defending the high cost of Apple's machines way back when... evangelism lives =] || loren.cox || 080000446

Sadly, I highly doubt that the empeg's price will drop to $600-$700. While this would be great, as Rob has said, they need to make up for the cost of the components that go into each unit. It would be great if they could get a price like that, but I don't see it happening anytime in the remote future. DiGNAN

Tino the NEO35 isnt worth it. Further its overpriced. For the way it sounds and its size it price should be 100 bux. Get a empeg save yourself the hassle. EMPEG set the standards NOW YOU PAY FOR THEM. THATS how WE PLAY

Unless you've actually used one i'd say those are some pretty grand generalizations. We need to get the stinkin' BAUEG meet together so someone can bring one and do a comparison =] || loren.cox || 080000446

I just read through about 3 months worth of stuff on that BBS and i must say that it's VERY similar to the problems a lot of people on this BBS had earlier on. Ground Loops, Alternator whine..etc. That, problems with specific hard drive brands and problems upgrading the firmware. With that said, I'll reiterate that I KNOW the empeg is a much better and well put together product (i bought one and F'n love it)... It's all about the price point. I'd just like to check one out in person to have things to defend the empeg on with personal experience. || loren.cox || 080000446

and i must say that it's VERY similar to the problems a lot of people on this BBS had earlier on. Ground Loops, Alternator whine..etc. And of course, to be fair, those things can be issues for any car-audio installation that involves an outboard amplifier. I'm pretty sure that many such problems reported on this BBS stem from the fact that the Empeg is the first outboard-amp product many of the users have ever installed in their cars. I'm sure it's the same with the NEO product. ___________ Tony Fabris

To be fair, the users on this BBS do our share of bitching, too. Hehe, damn straight. Just look at our thoughts on the Mark 2 rendering and the info mode at startup when each was first announced. We can be such brats sometimes DiGNAN

What is it they say? "When you lose money on every transaction, it's hard to make up for it with volume."
