If someone stole one of our empeg, would empeg require them to give a serial number to get a new car sled. I mean they should, we are a small group and EMPEG should protect us.

Although Empeg doesn't accept responsibility for stolen merchandise (and, in fact, has no legal obligation whatsoever in that area), Rob has stated in another thread that there are things they could do to help us in those situations if we were to notify them right away. So if your Empeg is stolen, then definitely call them right away. They might be able to help. ___________ Tony Fabris

Many empegs have changed hands - especially Mk.1 units - and I'm aware that quite a few have been bought and resold by retailers. There's no way we can run security checks on new clients and orders, it would be totally unworkable. The clientbase isn't huge right now, but in the new year production is going to increase by an order of magnitude.
If your empeg is stolen please report it right away and we have ways of - potentially - making life something of a hassle for the new "owner". I strongly suspect, however, that most stolen car players would end up in a dumpster minus hard drives.

Maybe an idea : store the serial-numbers of the stolen units in new upgrade files. If the player-executable sees it's running on a stolen unit, it will have plenty of bugs. When the new owner want's to ask advice about it ( on this bulletin board I hope ), you know it's a stolen unit... Frank van Gestel

but if the owner was to report a unit stolen and gave you the serial number if you asked for a serial number when selling the mount then surely you could look down the list of nicked units and refuse to sell the mount to them
PS anyone in scotland got an empeg i can look at

Following up the last few posts in this thread - I am happy to read your ideas and suggestions, however I don't intend to post anything further about our procedures. It somewhat defeats the point of having them if they are widely known.

What on earth is a dumpster? Which continent are you living on Rob?

I'm picturing Rob turning on the homing device on a particular serial number, and the empeg as soon as it sees network starts pinging away... ;) ;) ;)

That's because the brits are doing an equally good job anglicizing Tony. That's a bloody lie, so piss off. Actually, two decades worth of watching stuff by Cleese, Palin, and the rest of the Python gang (as well as reading my share of Douglas Adams) has done more to my vocabulary than the Empeg guys ever could. ___________ Tony Fabris

when a unit knows it is stolen it will go into self destruct mode and explode wiping out two city blocks
That would clearly be ludicrous. Most cities in England aren't laid out in blocks.
If anyone stole an empeg in Cambridge, it would in fact explode wiping out seventeen Roman alleyways, four lych gates and a crypt attributed to Wren, the sites of two messy Saxon martyrdoms, and the floorplans of three rival medieval goose markets.
I was once asked for directions to King's College chapel by an American driving down Bridge Street. I was only halfway through explaining the Byzantine journey round the one-way system that was the only route would take him there, when he interrupted me saying "Cut the crap! How many blocks down is it?"
Figuring he had a few things to learn about Cambridge driving before he'd even be receptive to any advice, I let him go. But I felt sorry for the wife and kids in the car for the rest of the day.

Cool. But we need to draw the line at getting him to drive on the wrong side of the road. That would be badHe already drives on the wrong side of the road. Ask him what happened to his Jag. Patrick Opinions expressed in this email may contain up to 42% water by weight, and are mine. All mine.

I didn't get the opportunity to drive on the wrong side of the road, on account of the large steel barrier that got in the way.
