Anyone seen this before? This is on my spare player, which I
didn't use for a long time. I was hoping to use it for the new
<censored>.

I suppose the USB hardware is broken. I don't use USB on it at all, but it
prevents my player to continue booting. Maybe I could compile my
own hijack kernel and leave USB support out. Or would there be an
easier way?

tman carpal tunnel Registered: 24/12/2001 Posts: 5528	One of the data lines is borked. Thats why it can't find the CS4231A chip or PDIUSBD12 chip. Usually the cause is one of the chips dying mysteriously

And yes, I was going to use it with v3a8 RE. But having to buy a wireless ethernet bridge, as well as having to fix this player, I now consider buying a wireless squeezebox instead. Thanks, Pim

This is the main peripheral data bus for the player, so any of the following can be the cause of the fault: IDE, USB, ethernet, sound-chip, buffer. I have traced this problem for two players so far. In one case, it was the IDE header; in another, it was the ethernet controller. Cheers

I switched harddrives, and never bothered to check whether the now redundant mk2 would startup with the new empty disk. So it may well be an IDE cabling problem. Thanks, Pim

CFinch106 new poster Registered: 14/07/2004 Posts: 23	Is there any reason that my USB will stop responding? For a while it transfers songs fine, then it hangs up on one of them and the rest are timed out. It's really hard to transfer songs if I have to do about 10 at a time from 8 gigs of music.

tfabris carpal tunnel Registered: 20/12/1999 Posts: 31578 Loc: Seattle, WA	If the USB driver also works under Windows 2000 (not sure if it does, the 2.0 release notes will probably say so if it doesn't), then try updating to that version of the driver anyway. Make sure you're on version 2.0 final on the player and on Emplode. Make sure your PC is updated with the latest flash BIOS for its motherboard, and that Windows 2000 has installed the latest drivers for that motherboard's USB chipset. Finally, make sure your empeg isn't having any hard disk trouble. _________________________ Tony Fabris
