I've finished pulling my dash apart to install my nice new £3 Maplin microphone in the car. After much fiddling I sat holding the microphone and selected 'Auto EQ'. What issued forth from the speakers were a series of pops, splat, cracks and crunches as various speakers banged against end stops and amps clipped. I'm glad I'd put off the installation of the new MB Quarts. At the end of it I was left with a scary looking eq that sounded well and truely terrible. Throughout the process I think I only heard tone once. Has anyone played with this in anger?

Try setting your locks to independant. For some reason left=right does the sort of thing you describe. Don't know why yet. You obviously also need to turn off shuffle, xfade, AGC etc too. Basically minimise your player's settings.

It seems to be a bit hit and miss. On one particular run I was left a high pitched whistle on the right channel.
BTW, has anyone else noticed the extra item in the sources menu?

I've never tested that extra menu item. If you use it be extremely careful to keep your volume right down otherwise you'll get feedback which will suck majorly.

It's all too clever for me, I gave it one try, couldn't synchronize, couldn't play MP2's(Karma doesn't play them either): I'm back to a nice, stable 2.00+plus hum & alternator whine (I'm quite used to it by now!)

Worth a try, ta very much: Only £7.99 in Maplins, and it looks like the same piece of kit - I'll get one on the way home.
Anyone want me to get the mic. whilst I'm in?
I'm sure if you went into radioshack, they would have something of a similar spec. in the US.

Great, cuts out the alternator whine completely, regrettably it also cuts out the sound, you can just hear it in the background at full volume.
Maplins quickest refund! Still you weren't to know!

I found this out too when I installed my empeg in the Clio. I've got the two pairs feeding the amp, it turned out the whine was on one pair only so I stuck it on that, worked a treat.

I use those Maplin transformers and they work great for me.
I can't remember your original post on this so I don't know what you've already done in trying to resolve this. Perhaps the problem you described is another symptom of what is causing the alternator whine in the first place? Unless of course, the isolating transformer you bought was simply DOA?
