Since I'm new to this, and the only thing I'd need it for was to install a boot animation, what is the most stable release because I don't want my entire Empeg to crap out because of a boot animation. Is it possible to install the animation then to take hijack off and go over it with the 2.00 release?

Only one or two releases have been anything other than rock solid. In fact, many times it has fixed bugs that exist in the standard releases. Stick with Hijack, even if you never use any of its other features. The most recent version should be fine.

The newest version (v401) is the best Hijack version to use.

Animations (other than the built-in Rio/Empeg ones) work only with Hijack installed, and cease to work when Hijack is removed.

Hijack can be removed by reinstalling any version of the player software over the serial link. Most users find this a nuisance, and immediately reinstall Hijack after such upgrades.

With Hijack already installed, one can use the ethernet upgrader tool to more rapidly switch between software versions, instead of the very slow serial port method. As a bonus, the upgrader tool does not blow away Hijack.

Cheers

Cool, at the time everything on Hijack seems so overwhelming, I guess I'll get to use some of the features on the road. Thanks

Once you use Hijack for awhile, if you remove it, it'll drive you nuts. Too many features to live without...

Yeah, to repeat what everyone said: You want hijack. Hijack good.

Agreed that its features can be overwhelming, but they are not activated by default. After installing hijack, the player should pretty much behave the way it always did.

If you want to go a little further, for starters, the features you want to activate are (names from memory, exact text may be different):

- Hard disk check on synch: Disable
- Restore DC/Car visuals: Enable

You probably want to experiment with the Auto Volume Adjust feature. My player has its in-car voladj set to medium almost all the time.

I'm using two different words to refer to the same thing. Mark's automatic volume adjust feature is based on Richard Lovejoy's original Voladj code.

Oh, I know. I was wondering if you were using both the hijack volume adjust settings in combination with the alpha 3 AGC. I thought one was supposed to replace the other.

I currently prefer the Hijack voladj behavior to what's in the Karma and v3. It pumps a bit less.

Good to know. I will have to start experimenting with that a bit.
