Ok. Since we have a thread going for freeipods, might as well start one for free flate screens. If you would use my referal link I would appreciate it. (I will update when I get 8 people so then we can start with the next link in line). Info on the process is the same as the ipod (more info here http://www.getfreeipods.tk )

Thanks!,

I knew I forgot to add something: Quote: Now comes the part where you sign up at freeipods.com (in this case freeflatscreens.com). If you use Mozilla Firefox, you may have issues with the signup process. So if possible, use Internet Explorer.
I have also heard that the only way this works is by using IE.. not 100% sure though.

I am a little worried on the ebay part. I went through and did it with Firefox, and I'm not sure if it registered. I was able to sign up with this browser, though. After I entered my info, it just went to a blank screen. I guess it just had difficulty getting through. I was still registered though.

Likewise. After creating the account, I got a blank screen. I just re-signed in, and after that, it seems like everything's working fine. I can see my refer URL, and I can go to all the other pages. It tells me I haven't completed any of the offers, yet, but I'm assuming that may be because Ebay hasn't verified the valid referal, yet (since it's a weekend).

Speaking of free stuff. There's the two below as well (among others from the same company, FreeSlide). Although, I'd never actually fill one of these things out after reading the terms, I figured they might as well get passed along anyway. http://sbase30.com/snyhc/register.phphttp://sbase30.com/elph/register.php

I refuse to participate in this, not because my (throwaway) email account will fill up with spam, but because of the principle of being used as an agent to help distribute spam. I'm also not a big fan of people using this Off Topic forum for these kinds of things, but I guess it's an open forum and we can post anything we want. I'd personally be in favor of a BBS policy forbidding pyramid-style marketing like this. I know the promise of a free flat panel is very alluring, but only a small minority (far less than one out of 9) will get theirs.
I know it's bad to look a gift horse in the mouth, but can someone explain to me how spam is profitable enough to give away these expensive items? I realize the pyramid structure means they will never actually pay out enough monitors as there are people who sign up, but it still seems like a huge chunk of money will go into this. I thought the idea behind spam is that it costs nothing... Somewhere there's a bean counter who's decided this strategy will pay for itself, but I'm not convinced.

As stated elsewhere, eBay pays out $20 referrals. Don't think of it as promoting spam, think of it as bilking eBay/Paypal.

I admit, I was a bit weary of allowing these posts, and in the past have deleted some that came from new members. The thing that stopped me this time was seeing it come from some of our elder members, and some facts to back it up. However, Consider these types of threads unwelcome here in the future. The existing ones can run their course (because I'd like my free 20gb hard drive ), but please, no new threads. Moderators have permission to delete any new ones. It's only a matter of time before these discussions start popping up in Google searches and start attracting less then desired users here.

Are you talking just about scam / too good to be true sounding things like this or items for sale in general.

I can't (and won't) speak for Tom here, but in my original post, I was referring to pyramid-style offers like this one. Anything that relies on referrals, recruiting X number of people to get Y amount of dollars or goodies, etc. I am all about people posting really good deals on items of interest to the average empeg owner (laptop drives, computer peripherals, stereo equipment, etc.) and often post these kinds of things myself here. But allowing pyramid-style viral marketing is a surefire way to clutter a forum to the point that it might start to drive away users who come to the BBS for something other than to get a free iPod or monitor.

I'm hoping that he is just referring to offers like this but I just wanted to be sure. I don't really like offers like this one but I do like the deals on HDD, and other electronics.

Here's an idea... cause I definitely see where you're coming from. It's happening on hundreds of forums, people just signup to add their link and have nothing to do with anything else. Anyways, I have http://freeipods.us and http://freeflatscreens.us ... maybe we can just put a link in here (and the other thread), close the threads, and forum members can send me an email and I will put their links on the site. That way anyone who is interested in the deal can just go there, and that will prevent people from signing up on the bbs to just post their referral link. I'd really hate for this to get out of control, especially if it were to hit google. I’m adding everyone’s link right now. Anyone else can pm me. (Note: I will check to see if you are a current member, so don’t signup to the bbs just to give me a link. There will be a submit section on the site pretty soon.) Greg
