I believe that speed was the main issue, although I have heard of other problems. I'm not sure if Creative have updated the software, or if this reviewer isn't so fussy. He seems unconcerned by the fact the player will take 3 - 4 minutes to boot (!) if you fitted a 20Gb drive and filled it with music. I wonder if this reviewer has actually seen a PJB100? Or any other hard drive based player for that matter.. he seems to think it's a new idea. Rob

I got the impression that that happened only on the first time you started; once it'd done it's 'review' it didn't need to do it again. But that might be fact-free optimism. Save the whales. As opposed to the 'go and get a cup of tea, have a quick snooze and then read the paper' length of time the Empeg takes whenever it chooses to do a disk check or even when it decides to rebuild the database? Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just stating that in doing certain things, the Empeg takes its time too. Is it after X number of re-synchs? Is it after X number of playing minutes? Is it after X number of disk sectors are filled? Is it after a random time seeded by the sum of the digits on the license plate of Hugo's Miata? I notice that the older (read: more filled) my empeg gets, the longer it takes to complete this process. So is it only checking those sectors with files in them? Will there ever be an option to postpone the disk check, perhaps just a yes/no dialog box before the check begins? And how long does it take Rod (aka: mardibloke) to disk check his 64 GB empeg? tanstaafl.
