I know what it means from the faq, but I thought I'd ask this...

on my player, the battery icon only comes on with the key in position 1. When the car starts, the symbol disappears. Do I need to worry? Everything appears normal otherwise.

Does the icon stay on all the time with the key in that position? Or just briefly flash?

If the former, yes I'd worry because it means the car's electrical system isn't putting out 12 volts unless the engine is on.

For me, I only get the battery icon when the engine's off if the player hits a deep bass note with the volume turned up (that's when the subwoofer amp draws the greatest amount of current).

Stays on for about 4 seconds then disappears.

If it's not giving you any more trouble other than what you just described, I wouldn't worry about it. Car batteries are meant to provide exactly enough juice to start the engine and *maybe* run the radio and lights a bit for short times. If it's not giving you any trouble starting the engine, and you don't need to run your empeg with the engine off, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Tony, of course, is authoritatively correct. In addition, just for peace of mind, you may wish to get the shop to check the battery health at your next oil change or tune-up. Certainly doesn't sound like anything to worry about immediately. Almost every vehicle I've used mine in will display the battery icon at startup for a few seconds.

It is irritating, though.

This is good to hear, though. The last thing I want to have happen is to be stranded at the office or elsewhere. I normally do not see the icon, but when I do I get a bit paranoid. Remember, this is my first non-factory installation. Hearing that this is not unusual is very reassuring.
