I pulled out of my driveway this morning, and managed to get to the first stop-light (only about 30-40 yards), when realized that I wasn't hearing any music. So I looked down at the Empeg, to make sure that it wasn't off from when I last had it in the dock, and saw not an Empeg, but the yawning maw of an empty sled. Just as I saw that, the light turned green, so I verrrrry slowly drove over to the side of the road, got out of the truck, and got the Empeg off the roof, where I moronically left it (on the very edge, no less) while putting the rest of my stuff in the truck.

Fortunately, I don't wash my truck very often, and it's covered in a layer of black, gritty smog residue, making it difficult for anything to slide around on the metal.

Moral of the story? Don't wash and wax your car!

(And maybe don't put your player on the roof, either.)

That's way worse than forgetting your gas cap up there I have come damn close to leaving my laptop on top of the car after getting out to go into an account.

Years ago, I left my brief case, with a presentation to a new client, on the roof and didn't realise until I'd checked in to their carpark.
Fortunately, they were very sympathetic and laughed it off, and it's probably this that broke the ice and got me the business, the next day!

It's amazing what can survive on the roof of a car:

JOE the cat survived a four-mile journey on a car roof - only to be savaged by a pit bull terrier days later.

The black and white moggy was asleep on owner Adria Bryan's Ford Escort last Monday evening when his amazing adventure began.

Staff nurse Adria failed to notice him and unwittingly drove at up to 60mph from her home in Holland Park Drive, Rhyl, towards Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan, where she was due to start a night shift.

Adria said: "I went up to the Sainsbury's roundabout, over the new bridge and on. I must have gone up to the national speed limit of 60mph. I even passed a police car with a cat on my roof and he didn't flash his lights at me.

"I realised something was wrong when other people flashed their lights. I thought I may have left my handbag on the roof but it was on the seat next to me so I carried on."

last summer down at the coast my mate put his kitesurf bar (with safety release system - new and unused!) on the roof of his car. Wasn't until we got to another beach that he realised that the bar wasn't in his car.

So then we had to drive back to all the places we'd been to trying to find it. We'd given up and were heading back to the first beach when he spotted it hanging in a tree, luckily it'd fallen off of the roof right by someones house and they'd actually attached it to a tree!

He'd actually managed to get a few miles before gravity got the best of it. Luckily there was no damage to it.

Amazing what some people leave on the roof!

we drove a curvy 15 mile gravel road with a 5 gallon bucket of crawdads on the top of a station wagon. we made a good meal of them once we discovered where they were.

Reminds me when I was going to school there was a big food court area off campus that I would go to quite a bit. I was walking across the street back to class when I saw a car pull out and stop at the light in front of me. I walked up to the car and tapped on the guys window, and he rolled it down and went "Uh, what", at which point I picked up his drink and full bag of food from off his roof, handed it to him, and said "you forgot your lunch" and walked away. The look on his face was absolutely priceless.

OH man. This is exactly why I have trained myself to NEVER put anything on the roof of my car. Getting in OR out of it. I put it on the ground and risk stepping on it before it goes up there.

you guys definitely don't appreciate gravel roads the way I do ... it wouldn't have lasted 5 seconds up there! ;-)
