I'm reasonably certain that I've broken my AC sensor switch, as described in this FAQ entry. It's my fault, I think, due to using it on the passenger footwell of my car whilst waiting for a proper install. But now it thinks it's on mains power all the time.

Is there someone who can repair this? I'm in the Cambridge area of the UK.

I'll do it if no-one closer to you offers. You can deliver it in person if you like - I am in Stanwick, Northants - 5mins from A14 J13. From Cambridge it'll take you less than 45 minutes if you avoid rush hours.

Michael, that's great. I often pass that way on the A14, so it should be no problem getting it to you. Please email me at the address in my profile so we can arrange times and places.

P.S. What kind of beer do you like?

Michael replaced the socket for me - thanks, Michael!

However, after doing so, the situation appeared slightly worse than before - the unit seemed totally dead in the car. Worked on AC, though. A bit of (very awkward) prodding revealed that the ignition sense line was unconnected at the car. Mike's player worked okay, but we suspect that it may have ignition sense tied high internally, as it doesn't shut off properly.

As a workaround, I've been running for the last week with a spare power jack in the socket, and the player in "Force DC" (thank you, Mark!).

I took it back to Cambridge Car Audio today, and they sorted it out - both ignition sense and dimmer were unconnected, and both work perfectly now.

Or, more likely, Mike's player was a Mark 2, and yours was a Mark 2a. More information here.
