has anybody set up the ir translate to use an IR sony romote, such as one that comes with the blank face stereos for vehicles?

I'd like to set up the IR translate to use the forward and back buttons to control the next previous functions, but wanted to know if anyone else has tried it.

thanks,
Utna

Some of the more recent Sony remotes use a high-frequency IR band that isn't readable by the standard consumer-IR input of the empeg. Do you have an exact model number for that Sony remote so we can check?

Note that you can go into Hijack's "Button Codes Display" screen, and if the remote works with the empeg's IR sensor, you will see the values appear on the screen and can therefore create your own IR translation table, you don't need our help.

More information here and here.

That high 'R' scares me.

Yeah, I never understood the reasoning behind going to higher frequencies with IR remotes. Is that band being too cluttered with various IR codes to be useful for new products anymore?

I mean, god forbid that manufacturers could simply agree on a signaling standard and all share the same band with the same codes for the same kinds of devices.

So check it. You should look and see if you get any response at all on the "Button Codes Display" screen. If you get nothing, then the empeg can't see its signals and you're SOL.

Button codes display has been there forever. What version of Hijack do you have?

If you don't see any codes, it doesn't mean your hijack version is wrong, it means the the remote is high-frequency and will NEVER work no matter what you do to the software.

You can get higher bandwidth at a higher frequency, maybe they plan to have smart remotes where the device sends the UI as a result of context switches to the remote, or something...
