I just bought a "new" empeg off of ebay, and whenever I connect the empeg to emplode, using USB, I get a message that says, "the player appears to no longer be connected." When I connect using a crossover cable everything works fine. Also, the "link" light(on the back) only turns on W/ the crossover cable. To check if this was a driver issue, I connected the empeg to a comp. w/ no drivers installed, and the "link" light still only turns on w/ the crossover cable. I just hope this guy didn't screw me.

The link light is for ethernet only, so it won't come on when USB is being used to connect to emplode.

What version of emplode are you using and what version of the player software is on the empeg itself? You may be seeing a problem related to this issue.

Player's running 2.0 beta 7, and emplode is 2.0 final.
Thanks for quick reply.

Also, when I upload songs using ethernet, it takes over 5 seconds per song, is that normal.

Yes. 10Mb (megabit) ethernet has a maximum theoretical speed of about 1 MB/second (megabyte). In reality, I see my empeg max out at about 700kB/second.

You don't say how long your songs are but I'll assume about 5 megabytes for a highish bitrate 3-4 minute MP3. i.e. 5 seconds a song or more is what I would reasonably expect.

You should not be using any of the V2 Betas!

I would suggest that you get V2 Final for your player from www.empeg.com to match the emplode version you are running on your PC.

You should also install the correct USB driver if you are using XP on the host PC.

Not to worry you, but I remember one of the early V2 Betas we tested, which was either B5 or B7, had some serious problems. I would recommend you update immediately before you lose your music.
