Emplode converts .mp3's with a Genre of:

'Beat'

to

'Christian Gangsta'

Bizarre, but true.

ROFL

In id3v1 the genre is identified by a number. The standard genres are 0-79. Later, WinAmp defined 80-125, those are now also widely used. You can find the list in the id3v2.3.0 description (appendix A, near the end). You'll notice that neither "Beat" nor "Christian Gangsta" appear in that list. In other words, those number for those genres is not really standard and it isn't really a bug that emplode interprets it differently from you tagging software.

Two things you can do about this: 1. Use id3v2 and put any string you like for the genre tag. 2. Change it in emplode, again to any string you want, doesn't have to be one of the predefined ones.

So, emplode has a different list of genres, after the 128.

Not a massive problem, but I thought that I'd share.

Cheers,

Paul.

PS I like genre 109 - although I can't imagine that many songs in this genre (..)

I have some Johnny "Guitar" Watson that comes close...

What always amazed me is that not only does "Primus" have it's own genre, but neither "Rockabilly" or "Psychobilly" have their own genres... I usually enter them as "Trailer..."

FITNR.

Found a missing comma in the list of genres while doing some i18n work, causing everything after "Euro-House" to be off-by-one. Doh.

That's just what they'll be expecting us to do!

You should call it Beta 15 to throw them all off

Does this only affect newly uploaded tracks with v1 tags - not v2 and not existing music on the player?

Thanks,
Aragon

It will affect newly uploaded tracks -- both ID3v1 and v2. It's too late for already-uploaded tracks -- they'll already have the wrong genre assigned, if it was towards the end of the list.

I should really do a search on my empeg by genre sometime - never used it yet, but it might be amusing to see where some of my wierder stuff is categorised.

Then again, I have never bothered to put in the genre field for the vast majority of my music as none of the categories fit exactly. Don't see it as staggeringly important. Sorry to go against popular opinion.
