Hi,

Thought that it would be awesome to get as many empegs down to a track day at the same time - I know that a lot of people with empegs do track days anyway, so wondering if people wanted to get together?

I'll get some dates/locations together if people are interested.

I was initially thinking of the UK, sorry US peeps!

Cheers,

Paul.

Ooops - I'm in the UK so I meant for here.

Nothing to stop something being organised in the US though!

Any idea which track you'd be looking at? I rather like Donnington and Cadwell, but at the moment, SE England or South would be best (due to the distance I'd have to drive from NL)

I'm torn between Brands (which is expensive) and a much more reasonable airfield day, of which we have many, many choices (2 near swindon - one near oxford, one in suffolk.).

Castle Combe is also an option, down on the South coast.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Paul.

Any place down south sounds good, as long as I don't _have_ to put the car round the track... (That's hopefully what the motorbike is for =)

Alan,

Track days are as follows: (stolen outrageously from www.pistonheads.com)

"Track days give you the chance to fully explore the performance of your car in the relative safe environment of a race track. You can be sure that they'll be no pedestrians around the corner, no parked cars, no GATSO cameras and no speed limits. With the smoothest one way streets in the country, you can push you car to the limit and find how it really behaves under stress."

Sound good? Come along!

Cheers,

Paul.

Some track days (see www.race-speed.com) do performance testing - 1/4 mile straight line runs.

Personally, I'd be a bored just going in a straight line!

Cheers,

Paul.

Although I love Brands, I am inclined to agree - too d***** expensive, even on the run-what-you-brung days.

Castle Coombe is damn nice actually, that's a vote for me. Hugo likes it there too, I think?

We have a 1/4 mile sprint race over here...
Only, the island is so small that the nearest we get to a straight road has a 20% right hand corner on it... =)

Still the (slightly modified) Hayabusa comes over the line at 150+ mph (The Island speed limit is normally 35... =)

Blimey, Jazz - if you can hit those kind of speeds on that stretch of road, then you are God.

Never done Castle Coombe (just watched races there) - my favourite is Donington as it's long and hilly. I have done Mallory Park too, which is quite fun (good hairpin to get sideways out of... but that's not the idea if you're trying to be fast!) but a bit small.

There are quite a few donington ones coming up this year...

It wasn't me... I was at the finish line watching... =)
My bike will only manage around 100-110 on the same course (I'll find out later this year...)

The silliest car I've seen down there was a Fiat 126 with a turbo-charged Kawazaki 1100 bike engine. That one did the Hill Climb as well.

I have no idea about different tracks, i just want it to be quite cheap. New tyres and brakes will cost me enough as it is ;)

I dont think my mk4 golf 1.4 can go anywhere near as well performance wise as any of your cars, but it will be nice to know how fast i can go without slidding / breaking an axel. ;)

Having participated in my first track day this last November I can only say I just can't wait till the snow melts here so I can get to another one!

I was originally hesitant to put my "new" car onto the track, but after a lot of needling from others in our car group I took the plunge and I'm totally hooked. If done right, it is quite safe and loads of fun. Each car in our two day event had an instructor along on every ride, and I learned quite a bit that I wouldn't have learned just being in the car by myself.

The only disadvantage to having the instructors along was that they didn't want the music playing while they instructed. (Well, neither did I as I had good instructors.) It would have been fun to be listening to my "speed" playlist doing 135mph down the straightaway.

I just wish you were arranging this closer to where I live (Spokane, WA, USA).

I'm also a fan of Donnington. But am prepared to try anywhere - thats the problem with track days - once you have done one you get hooked Not done an airfield yet ( how about Brentwaters ), so would be ok about that, also hear Anglesea is a lot of fun and not done that yet either.

Right - here's the list.

Saturday 21 April 2001 - Goodwood (TrackFun)
Monday 30 April - Castle Combe (RMA)

Wednesday 02 May 2001 - Brands Hatch
Saturday 05 May 2001 Wroughton (Race-speed)
Saturday 12 May 2001 - Goodwood (Lloyds Motor Club)
Saturday 19th May 2001 - Track Day - Rockingham Speedway (Not sure where this is?)
Monday 21 May 2001 (Cars & Bikes) - (Brands Hatch On Track Experience)
Saturday 26 May 2001 - Bedford Autodrome (RMA)
Thursday 31st May 2001 - Castle Combe - www.trackdays-ltd.com

I've tried to keep the list to weekends, but it's not that easy.

My personal preference would be for Wroughton, since it's the only airfield (and I'm a beginner and don't like concrete walls!).

What does everyone else think?

If anyone else knows of companies that arrange Airfield days (other than race-speed.com) please let me know.

Cheers

Paul.

Thanks for your work to find some dates Paul. I am certainly game for doing this. Perhaps you need to get confirmed people that are interested first. Then aim for a central venue for those that are really interested. I am prepared to travel. bookatrack and trackadict plus many other web based comapnies would probably be able to help us out if we had a few people confirmed as interested. Be aware thst some airfields have lots of rubbish on the track, and you can get more stone chips than you bargined for. Although as you say, run off area is better.

Well, I'm confirmed at Wroughton (Swindon) via race-speed.com for the 19th March and 5th May.

If anyone is interested I'd be glad to meet up, but I've had very little response otherwise.

I'll probably do some Castle Combe/Goodwood ciruits later in the year.

I would make the trip up to Anglesey this weekend, but there's too much snow.

Cheers,

Paul.
