NPR this morning - iPod "randomness" (shuffle) article in Newsweek...

I cracked up on the way in this morning. NPR had a story, interviewing this guy that SWEARS his iPod mini has a fascination with Steely Dan. "It seems to play Steely Dan more, and play some things almost never".
The story ended with mathematicians and cryptographers explaining the nature or randomness, and that the human mind TRIES to make patterns out of random series. Funny, I wanted to call in and refer everyone to the loooong discussion on the empeg board.
"Hey, listners and iPod newbies, we empeg folks dealt with that issue, what, 3, 4 years ago? Ho Hum... old news..."
I guess the world is slowly catching up with us...

Interesting. I'll go looking for a transcript of the program to link from that FAQ entry on the topic.

And then rehashed 6 months ago when the story hit the NY Times, too.
What with the lateness of it, and the duplication, it makes me wonder... NPR, news for nerds, stuff that matters?

Well don't make fun. I'm glad NPR is finally covering this issue. I have the same problem. My Mk2A doesn't want to play anything but Grand Funk Railroad and BTO!

The empeg doesn't do random. It shuffles. They're different. The first has no weighting, the second can. And all the latest info from Peter, et al. indicated the Player software does use some dynamic data to bais the shuffle.

Well, that's all well and good, but there's dynamic, then there's dynamic. First, I don't even own any Grank Funk Railroad, and I only loaded one single Guess Who tune on the Empeg. How the heck did it mutate into BTO?

Hey, look at it this way, at least it didn't mutate into Steve Miller Band.

Yeah. It'd be a sad waste of an empeg for it to fly like an eagle out of the window.
