had my empeg mark 2 for about 3 years now without problems. i rarely update the mp3s, but today i decided to add / remove some of the mp3s using emplode via tcp/ip and received:

it sits there and chugs for quite a while before the error...then it closes...and the mp3s are not uploaded, but the playlists are. any thoughts on what might be wrong? the date on the player says 5/16/01 and i've never updated the software on the system.

First, which version of the software are you running?

Next, are you sure that's the error number reported? If you follow the instructions on this page, which is the usual way to diagnose version 1.0 errors, you end up with a number that's far too large to be one of the normal errors.

Try USB to sync. I had a similar problem and it would only sync on USB. For me, the database was never properly re-written via ethernet and the player took ages to boot (re-writing the database).
Meanwhile, my problem disappeared miraculously....

i switched to usb, and then recieved the error 10 about the tags. ran a tag remover and re-added them and the errors all went away.
the usb seems a bit clunky - sometimes it doesn't find the empeg, etc. does it make sense to ugrade to v2 of the car code? any downsides?

The radio doesn't work as well as it should in 2.0 final for a couple of reasons. But if you don't have a radio module, I can see no reason not to upgrade to it. If you do, we can go into it further -- there are some workarounds.

But the final v1 release was 1.3. I don't think there were any big bugfixes in there, though. And I can't see anywhere it's available anyway.
