So, is the MP3Beamer the closest current offering to the Central?

Anyone got their hands on one yet?

I'm thinking that I might build one out of my $99 Fry's machine if the reviews look promising.

I believe there are probably a dozen other products out there that are much closer to what the Central is/was. But it's painfully obvious the segment hasn't caught on and is far from mainstream.

I'm normally the skeptic, but this looks to be exactly what I want from a music server. There doesn't appear to be anything novel, just an integration of existing hardware and software products with Linspire and a few custom applications... But if those custom add-ons work as Robertson says they do, I might give this a serious look. The 80gb drive would need a bump, but otherwise, it seems to be a good fit for someone who would like something that works out of the box, but has good 3rd party "hackability" potential. I'll wait until more detailed reviews come in, but this has potential.
