I've sent several e-mails to "[email protected]" with no response.
So how can a person get a new rotary encoder (Volume button) and a HDD cable
Both of mines are in bad shape. I will pay for the unit if someone can just tell me to order them from.

Rob is very busy trying to earn a living at the moment. Don't worry, he will get round to you when he's ready.

HDD cable can be gotten from Eutronix - link at top of page.

And don't try the rotary encoder replacement yourself unless you are an extremely good at surface mount rework (i.e., you have a lot of experience with it).

If you email me your postal address ([email protected]) I will send a couple of mk2 rotary encoders to you - I have lots and lots of them. HDD cables are more tricky, Rob has most of the spares and I got left with very few

Reworking them isn't easy, though - it's very easy to lose a pad from the PCB whilst trying to remove the broken encoder. If this happens, a small patch wire fixes it, though it's not desparately neat...

ISTR that we paid ~$17 each (inc tax) for them when we were buying them from the manufacturer (Samtec) 100 units at a time. It's a custom part - custom lengths between the connectors and mounting sides, etc, so it does cost a bit.

$18 is a bit of a bargain for one-off!

Yeah, I think I paid like 30 bucks for one from the UK before they were available locally. And the ones you can get now are a bit longer which is better for your board (less likely to pull on it).

I think that last time I purchased the crimp-on 44-pin connectors, they cost about US$5 each, and it takes three of them to make up an IDE cable, plus the 44-conductor cable itself, and assembly time.

$20 seems very expensive, until one adds up the individual components that go into it.
