I took my Empeg out of my jeep and want to have it put into my 93 Pathfinder. I bought a cd player with Aux inputs to attach it to so I don't have to put in my amps.

The problem is, I cannot find anyone willing to install it for me. Even with copies of the maual and install FAQ in hand, no one wants to do it.

I know the outputs on the Empeg get plugged into the Aux inputs, what other wires from the Empeg need to be hooked up? And I assume they just get spliced into the other wires?

I know this is asking alot, I have read alot of the other posts, but I need it in detail if possible. I think I am going to go have the CD player installed and then just install the Empeg myself at home. I am pretty handy so with instructions, can probably figure it out.

I am going crazy with no music in my car.

Thanks
Leanne

Black wire to a ground
Yellow to constant power
Orange to Ignition/Accessory power
That should be all you need to worry bout since you wont need the Blue Amp remote line. Well and the rca out to aux input

Thanks, that's pretty much what I told both shops, but wanted to make sure I knew what I was talking about. I guess if they won't do it I will just do it myself.

Then I will go back in there and show them that me (a girl ) was able to do it.

Thanks again,
Leanne

Honestly its probobly better that way, dont have to worry bout them twisting the sled. just get you a test light so you can find a constant power and an accessory power and get some piggyback clips (what ever they are called) and you should be fine.

If they wouldn't take on installing the empeg, it's probably not worth paying them to install the stereo. With the instructions to take apart your dash, a mounting kit, and the wireing harness for your car, you can probably do everything yourself.

I was just out looking at the wires and I think I will try and do it myself. My brother has a test light and I am pretty good a soldering, so the connections should be fine.

Thanks for the help and encouragement..... I'm going to try and do it tonight.

One thing you'll want to be careful of is that the dash opening in your Pathfinder is probably not big enough for the empeg. According to Crutchfield, your Nissan dash is J-DIN size and the Empeg is made for an E-DIN sized dash. This means that you will probably need to trim your dash bezel. For more info, look at the section titled DIN bay size: here and in this thread. I've done installs in Mitsubishis, Nissans, and Toyotas and all needed some dash modification. Please feel free to ask if you need suggestions.

The biggest tip there is using a flat file to straighten your cuts. Definitely works the best.

The second gotcha will be that depending on your dash, you may have to mount the sled to the metal radio bracket with low profile screws or bolts. Tony Fabris has a good picture of this here. Be aware that when you choose the spot for these screws or bolts, make sure that they do not collide with the screws on the side of the empeg when you are inserting or removing the player.

I found some nice low-profile screws with t-nuts for the nut side at Lowe's. There is a pic of the outside here and a pic of the inside here. The t-nuts are rounded on the inside and attach from the outside so they are easy to install.

Well I got the cd player installed today, figured if i screwed something up I would rather it be the cd player. I have a final tomorrow so wont' get to installing the Empeg until Wed, but it fits in the hole in the dash perfect, not the wrong size at all.

Can't wait!!

YEAH!! Got it in, not major problems, except the ground was loose and every time you shut the door or the glove box, it rebooted. Figured that out pretty quick. Man it was pretty easy, but I am pretty proud of myself.

Thanks for the help guys. Saved myself 75.00 for install fo the 2 decks. Gonna go get an alarm.

Two things:

1. Don't trust the alarm to keep your empeg safe. I know people who have had their alarms stolen. Always pull the empeg from the car and take it with you.

2. With two decks installed close together, heat might become an issue. Monitor the temperature of the empeg and if it gets to be a problem, have Eutronix install a cooling fan for you.

I always take my Empeg with me, I bought a bag for it along time ago and I have a dedicated pocket for it in my backpack for when I am at school. My car has been broken into like 5 times and they keep trashing the dash and stuff, so hopefully the blnking light will deter them.

I will keep an eye on the temp, what is a healthy range?

Official numbers here, I personally wouldn't let the player interior get hotter than 120f without starting to worry.

Well the little punks in the neighborhood broke into my car AGAIN last night and trashed the door, lock and the dash. Second time in 2 weeks. The last time they did about 2000.00 damage since they keyed the side of the car.

They stole my sony deck, less the face plate and my RiO Remote. Anyone have a remote they want to sell?

Sigh. Yeah. Been there, done that, got the footprints on my t-shirt.

Face plate stereos don't deter thieves. Everyone please remember that.

Sorry to hear about the Rio Remote being stolen. Remember that with a little work, you can use IR Translate in Hijack to make just about any standard-frequency consumer IR remote work with the player.

Glad your empeg wasn't in the car.

At this point, I'd assume it's the same group of miscreants who are targeting you over and over again. If I were in your shoes, I'd be completely beyond anger and rage at this point. The police aren't helping you catch these subhumans, or offering suggestions as to how to prevent future losses?

Sadly, my pacifist nature would preclude me from lying in wait under a black blanket in the back seat with a double-barreled shotgun.

Ouch! Sorry to hear this, Leanne! Insurance might cover the cost, but what about all your time and effort...

Exactly. I generally don't attach too much to things, but acts of inhuman malice like those Leanne is suffering drive me crazy. When some green driver scrapes my car in the parking lot, I more or less just shrug it off, but when I find it scratched on purpose I get hopping mad, and would quite certainly physically harm the perpetrator if I got him before cooling off.

Well, I put in a compustar alarm with 2 way pager, i unplugged the little blue blinking light and the siren, and sleep with the remote and a baseball bat by my bedside. Also, my 300 lb 6'6" brother lives in my basement and is just a stomp on the floor away. I am almost hoping that the little buggers try it again.

Insurance did cover it, but I have a 300.00 deductible. So 600.00 in a 2 week period just about killed me. Got the new stereo and put it in myself and it sounds pretty good.

As for the police, they told me to just go back to the OEM stereo and I wouldn't have any problems. I think they are full of SH*T. They stole a whole bunch of weird stuff, so it's not just the stereo.

On a positive note, i ended up getting a brand new RIO remote for my empeg so I am happy about that, mine was getting pretty worn anyway

I dunno. I don't expect you can easily fence an OEM stereo for crack money. It's the aftermarket stereos that are the target because they can sell 'em to other people who want aftermarket stereos.

I've never heard of someone getting their car broken into for an OEM stereo theft.
