I'm attempting to format a 60GB Toshiba hardrive in my empeg (only drive). I'm using the most recent car builder and following the FAQ instructions but after it flashes, pumps, and restarts I get strange repeating error messages. I've included as an attachment the captured hyperterminal output. The large section of error code after the boot-up sequence just repeats.

This used to be part of a 2 drive set up. I took the older drive out because it was failing. I started by just reinstaling the software on this drive without formating but it woudn't synch properly (kept building database untill crashing). After I got this error message I tried installing the player software again anyways and now that gives me a (different) set of repeating error messages.

I'd post those error messages too, but I don't feel like flashing my player for the 20th time tonight. If it's important I'll do it and post it tomorrow.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Anybody?

Here is the readout from when I try to install the developer image.

I've replaced the cable and I have the jumpers set properly to be the only drive.

Come on, somebody has to at least have a guess at this, I'm going into sonic withdrawal here!

You shouldn't need to do a manual format if it's a 60GB drive. I've got a Toshiba MKsomethingorother 60GB and I just used the builder image. [edit]You may need to however if it's not a Mk2a since you have less memory.[/edit]

I have a Mk2a. The builder image is what I've been trying to use.

I installed this hardrive myself (as an addition to the original 10GB) the first time around without a problem, so I'd like to think I'm not a complete novice at this.

Mataglap, that looks like I've got to hook up the drive to my computer. I don't have the cables for that right now, but I'll keep it in mind if no one can come up with anything better.

I never implied that you're a complete novice just that you shouldn't need to do a manual format of the drive.

If this is a second drive, you should be able to do it from a shell, I have both fdisk and mke2fs on my units. (Might need to install the tarball of additional stuff, but I know I didn't put those two programs on there myself.) In any case, you definately want to format the music partition according to Roger's webpage, it makes a =huge= difference in fscks.

There's a real problem since there's segfaults going on. Maybe try the drive on the other position of the cable?

Solo drive. I'll try moving it to the second (middle) position on the cable.

No worries, I wasn't taking offence.
