So you may recall that my wife's Karma's hard drive failed last year after she dropped it. Not being made of money, it took us a while to get her another one. About three months ago I finally did and bought her a refurbished Karma on Ebay- I figured the warranty didn't do much for us last time . . .
So this weekend the wheel broke. Man was I ticked. So I decided to open it up and see if I could fix it. Whew, was THAT a lot of work. Made me feel like a true geek- nothing like the empeg, that's for sure.
At any rate, it became immediately clear that the wheel was not gonna get fixed. And then I had the bright idea to take apart the old one, which I managed to still have lying around. So I did, and now had two torn apart Karmas sitting on my desk. I swapped the hard drives and used her origional Karma with the newer drive. Then I put them both back together, with one VERY disfunctional unit and one in perfect working connection. I am now my wife's hero, for her wheel works again AND I managed to get her nice, less scratched screen back (the refurb one was more scratched than the origiona)- bonus!
Anyway, it's nice when things work out. And now I know that I have spare parts in case I need them.
