While my avatar is easily distinguished and related to my screen name, the connection to me is not immediately clear. Without further ado, I'd like to impress you all with the fact that I am, indeed, flesh and blood. The connection is work-related. I make these do this.

That's me taking a quick drink.
Not really - it was a winter pool session, and I don't really care for the taste of chlorine.

Haha, lots to reply to, though just a ramble. Who else had far-out avatars? visuvius: Oh, so you were the Kid Icarus one too? I spotted the Ninka Gaiden pic a mile away. Now if only I could make that jump in the the last level.... ricin: Haha, which are some of the same avatars used by Drakino, and previously used by Mach (Nemo) and others. Well, unless my browser just isn't showing it right.... like when it shows the top half of the yellow guy and a couple of gulls on the bottom... ineedcolor: You've had some cool ones over the years. A shame the BBS dosn't maintain avatar with old posts. Didn't it, at one point? No, it maintained sig's...? I really have to get my new avatar made. Eventually. cwillenbrock: So it's just a face! Geez, here I've been thinking it's a deformed bug head or a Living Wall or something. jimhogan: You too. What is that in your avatar? A super close up of your eye? wfaulk: I've been wondering about that one for a long time too. Geez, I should have asked this sooner. Rob: Haha, I always thought it was some twisted pun of an anime panda. That show sounds funny.

My username used to be Meatballman. I got my brother, who's a graphic designer/artist to sketch me up a quick caped-crusader meatball. When I changed my username, I left the old avatar so that people could connect my new name with me.

Evidently, it didn't work too well
Not all of us browse the BBS with avatars (and .sigs) turned on.
BTW, my avatar is just some random pic I found one day, which I happened to like.

My avatar came from O Brother, Where Art Thou (actually, pilfered from the movie's web site), but its origins go back to one of those cheesy name games at some summer program or other while I was in high school. You were supposed to come up with an adjective that began with the same letter as your first name that somehow described you. The irony of "DapperDan", of course, is that I generally avoid dressing up whenever possible.

That's why I'm against having the name change feature turned on to begin with. A couple of people have changed and I can remember who they used to be, but certainly not all.

Well, I like the feature because it allowed me to finally change the case of my name. The letters and numbers stayed, but all those capital letters dropped case. I've thought about dropping the 17, too...

Oh, how annoying!
When I change my "display name", it changes globally for all past posts and references too.
So much for Hijackin' Fool.
Back to mlord again.

Well, it was time for a change!
I dropped the numbers (they were just randomly picked when dignan was already taken on AIM), applied an appropriate avatar, and changed my signature. Yes, my name is Matt!

Yeah, I do wonder how many people associate me with "FerretBoy". Still, that name (picked very quickly from a fraternity nickname because I didn't think I'd stick around) didn't seem to convey my personality very well.

time: THAT is awsome. I always thought it was a back stage pass or something.
JrFaust: It took me a while to see the empeg in your avatar. I always thought it was a fish, which was reinforced when I finally saw LoTR and understood the quote.
Dignan17: I always read your name as "Digi Dan" and assumed that your old avatar was some Digimon character or something... probably named Dan... or Phan Phan.

:-) Heh, I guess it looses just a bit too much in the reduction... Perhaps I should look at one of those moving logo's that scrolls around to provide a bit better resolution. Hmm. I'll have to look into that.

Mine is Rick Hunter from Robotech/Macross. I used to watch the series before school many years ago. I haven't seen the need to change it yet.

Two days after Amersfoort, 2004, it was late at night and I had drunk a few beers (as one does). The two boys were asleep in the bedroom next door. I plugged the TV output cable into the iXUS that I had been given at the meet as a special surprise. I was looking at the screen of the TV with the camera in my right hand pointing up at my face: accidentally pressed the exposure button and BING! my first ever digital photo. That's me in profile, in low lighting, loooking at the TV screen. It seemed appropriate to use it as my avatar here, friends
