I'm still seeking the owner of the car who has a number plate I'm after. All my searching has drawn a blank so i figured an advert in his/her local paper might get me somewhere. So does anyone know what are the local papers for the Lancashire/Preston area? And by that I mean the papers that actually get read!

I imagine those at http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/ and http://www.lep.co.uk/ are the best to start with.

One snag is that by putting too much *visible* effort in, it might mean the person will ask a silly sum if/when you find them.

Did you try the DVLA? I am guessing that they would refuse disclosure unless you were to tell them porky pies about why you wanted the information (I would obviously not recommend this).

I tried the DVLA but I told the truth on the form so they told me to get lost. I could have made up some story about them being in an accident but thats not a very nice thing to do. I'll take a look at those sites, thanks.
