Hey guys,

Is there a way of getting hdparm, hddtemp and ide-smart working on SATA drives in Linux? It would be good to check their integrity once in a while.

not until libsata has support for ATA command passthrough.

Yes, just apply the libata passthru patch. I'm (still!) bugging Jeff to push it upstream sooner than later. But in the meanwhile, it's standard in the (K)Ubunutu Hoary/Breezy kernels, as well as those of most other distros.
