Hi,

may somebody can help me. hopefully!

I have a HP Color LaserJet 4500 at home. Now I have a problem with the upper front drawer fan. It does not work anymore and I get an Error "57.3 FAN ERROR".

Now I did already change it against an other 40x40x10mm fan, but the printer do not like a fan with a "Tacho-Signal".
Does somebody have a fan somewhere? May form a not working printer. It's form NMB 1604kl-04W-B59 (L01). Look the attachment for the details.

I found different websites, but they sell only 400 or more items. From HP, I got the proposal for a new upper front drawer. But this part is about 200 USD.. and this is too much.

Thanks crazymelki

Description form the service manual about the error:
The intake fan is located in the front, center of the drum drawer (refer to Figure 7-32). (The drum drawer is referred to as the upper front drawer for end users.) Fan rotation stops when the drawer is opened. A fan error message appears when fan motion is NOT detected by the DC controller’s

I think it's a US address, and I don't know if they can solve your particular problem, but www.fixyourownprinter.com usually has what one would need in this situation.

50.x series errors on LaserJets can indicate a problem (believe it or not) with the mains power cable, or it can happen if you are plugged into a power strip with surge protection.

Did the fan actually seize up?

Hi Rob,

The original fan is defect and the replacement I did with a "Papst"-Fan works ( I can hear it), but on the end of the worm-up from the printer, I get the error 53.7. I think there is a problem on the third wire. I need instead of a tacho-signal a fan with a on/off swich, like this NMB 1604kl-04W-B59 (L01)....?!?!

bye crazymelki

Both fans would have a tacho signal. The problem is that some fans give 4 pulses per revolution and others will give 2. You also need to take into account that different fans will spin at different speeds so the HP firmware might be freaking out because the stock fan would never go that slow or fast.

The Papst fans I've got do have a speed signal but it's slower than what most things expect. My crappy Shuttle P3 board BIOS would freak out because the fans appeared to be turning too slowly.
