I want this! (or something like that)

Anyone know of a solution that works like it? (actually only the streaming radio thingy with built in speaker, over ethernet instead of wireless ok too)
Possibly a little cheaper than the $400, and available NOW!

The AE WiFi radio was designed in the UK, however, by Reciva, a Cambridge-based firm

Must be good then

A friend of mine works for AE and has a pre-production model at home on test - it's a great bit of kit.

Aha,

Quote:
[home computing] Internet radio appliance yanked by authorities
Dutch broadcaster VPRO offered an Internet radio appliance from Reciva, for € 140, in an ad last week. The VPRO website currently lists the offer as 'pending discussion with public broadcast authorities'. Somebody must have become very scared about the future of conventional broadcasting. Expect more of this type of resistance in the future, even though it is a lost battle. Broadcasting will be over the Net.

My cousin had a HiFi shop in London, and he had a pair of AE 'AEGO 2' speakers in his listening room. I had a good play around with them, and the sound is really beautiful and rich.

I really want this radio! A bit of a shame that I've gone and bought a sweet road bike and now have to give the spending a break to let my wallet recover. 200 quid on an alarm clock is not really an impulse buy

I saw this a few weeks ago. It looks like it got the beating of a lifetime with a giant ugly stick.

Pretty uninspiring. I understand the functionality, but I just don't agree with its execution. An advanced ipod dock with some of this functionality would have been a much sweeter product.

A 2005 Marin Mill Valley. Its very light, nice components, but the creme has to be carbon fibre forks and seatstays - It is so smoooth to ride, its amazing how the frame soaks up the road. Plus you can get some speed going and scare yourself silly. Totally love it.

Ah, I'm not too sure. Yes, its not very inspired, but I love the fact that it looks like a standard clock radio of sorts and not some high tech geek gadget with a hundred buttons, big aerial and lots of blinking LEDs.

The same way a girl last week thought that the Empeg came with my car, its not out of its place.

[edit] I should really start using threaded mode... I thought you were referring to the AE Radio, and not the Roku one. Yeah, I agree they could have tried a little harder on the Roku. The AE looks great though

I was wondering...

The Roku Radio has a ton of buttons, a shape that looks like it serves no functional nor decorative purpose, a tiny screen, etc.. It's a blast right out of the early 80's. But I'm not sure that's the look they were going for.

Old post.

But i just bought this thing:

http://musicpal.info/

Pretty cheap i think (129€ at dixons for me, under 100€ ordered online)
Linux based (they used to have some problems obeying gpl, but are getting better at that: http://www.musicpal.info/gpl.htm )
I like it so far, haven't tried the media server part, but the internet stations just work nicely. Sound is ok, for such a small box. Configuration through menus or html menu. Supports rss feed tickers, weather, stocks(not that i have any)
I like the big rotary buttons too.
