Sorry for the OT post, but this has been bugging me:
I've been wondering about this plate since I saw it on this BBS (long time ago - Couldn't find it in a search), and yesterday I saw it again in Beverly Hills Cop 2. A web search shows it was also in LA Story and an episode of The X files ('Hunger', took place in Orange County).
I know it's a longshot, but have any of you (esp. the ones in CA) heard of this plate number before? Is it a vanity plate that I just don't get, or owned by Fox or something? Any info appreciated, for my sanity's sake.

You may have already found this in your search, but this page http://www-chaos.umd.edu/misc/plates.html has a few guesses. Two thousand RPM at 123MPH seems like the most reasonable to me.

Yeah, I did see that page. I think I like the 2000 RPM @123Mph meaning, too.
I'm still kind of curious if it's the same plate on 3 different California cars in 3 different movies/shows, or if a lot of people can have that plate. I wouldn't think there could be multiple copies of the same plate in use, as that kind of defeats the purpose of license plates.

Nope, if it is a real plate there can only be one copy of it per state. But, if it is a vanity plate it could have been moved from car to car. More likely though is that it is just a prop that belongs to Fox studios.
