Had a moment today when I was swearing wildly at myself... I'll
abstain from quoting my thoughts from those seconds!

I managed to drop the empeg as I was trying to carry to much stuff
in one hand and didn't have the fingers through the handle of the case
- stupid, stupid, stupid...

Dropped if from about 3.5 feet onto concrete, it landed on the
top-front left corner. Only damage (everything works OK) was that
the extending corner of the panel was broken/sheared off. It can
probably be glued back in place with very little visible clues, if
not, I'll get a new panel.

More padding might have helped, but it would probably have had to be
quite thick, as the top-front corners are quite exposed...

Will also look for a small hard case - I like the one shown in the
mpeg video demo'ing the empeg (forgotten the link or who it belongs
to), but it is a bit on the large side.

I believe that was CHiP.

I would probably hurt myself in compensation to my lovely empeg if I ever dropped it. Of course, I'd proabably have a heart attack, so I wouldn't have to worry about it

I dropped my Mark1 once, before the empeg carrying cases were available. I was using a Case Logic bag with a shoulder strap, and it slipped off my shoulder as I was getting out of the car.

After getting an empeg case, I haven't dropped anything yet. Something about the fact that the cases have handles instead of shoulder straps. Somehow I'm more careful with something in my hand than something on my shoulder.

The Mark1 continues to work great despite the fall. The hard disk did fail some months later, but it's possible that it wasn't due to the fall. It might have been something else: For a while, I was playing the Empeg in the cabinet of my home stereo system, with the player sitting right on top of the amplifier. I didn't realize until much later that this was generating a lot of heat for the empeg. I'll bet that's what did it.

So I wouldn't worry about the drop too much. And if the face doesn't look quite right after you glue it, just order another one from them.

We've got a few spare faces (possibly not all new, but I'll pick a good one), so we can probably send you one f.o.c. - mail me with your details and I'll see if I can get one out...

Yea, it was my case, I still use it, and i've never droped it, but with all the foam, i'm sure it won't get hurt. I got the case more for the times when i squish everything together, either in the back seat, or trunk. You konw how people in your car care for your items in your back seat. They'll just get in, and step on stuff.

Anyway, My question is about Tony's comments on the heat effecting the empeg. Would anyone (empeg people) suggest putting a small 12v fan at the top of the docking sled when its installed in the car? I'm not sure if it will cause noise, but it might be worth it to keep it cool. I have the room, and the little holes at the top of the empeg should work well to circulate the air.

I've noticed when i had my Mk1 in my old car, it would get very hot when i took it out at the end of a long drive. I do a lot of long driving.

my empeg page is here (with photos of my case). And my install page is here.

I dropped my Km 1 some time ago and you seem to have fared better than me. the end of the VFD nipple connected with a cap and broke off. had to pay for the replacement but true to from, Rob & the crew were very good.
14 days without an empeg is a long time!!

Ouch, baaad luck...

I do appreciate how lucky I was - the 'thunk' as it hit didn't sound good
at all... The broken off part of the screen (first I saw as I opened the
case) made my feel queasy until I could see the entire screen and the
quite limited damage that had been done. And when it booted right up
and played just like before it felt a lot better...

Hmmmmmm, why did the text show up in black..?. Let's see if tagging it helps...

BTW, thanks to all that pointed out the Pelican case, it
looks like the empeg would fit into a 1200 case with a centimeter or two
to spare on each side, I'm not worried about carrying the cables.

Now, to find a retailer that carries them (and how many times more
expensive it is over here... sigh...)
