Just got one of these toys - ARM, Debian Linux, WiFi, bluetooth... Perfect as a remote UI for the empeg. Wonder what it would take to port something like Palantir onto it - or perhaps something web-based...

There's already a web-based interface.

Indeed, that's why I was thinking about it. But it might be easier to bluetooth-enable the empeg than wifi-enable it (as in "a bluetooth dongle is smaller than a wifi base". Well, I supose I could run slip/ppp over bluetooth...

Mark, do you think you'll have the time/chance/desire to make those new versions of your web control tossed about long ago in its original thread? Like a nice party interface with larger font and more simplistic layout (guest-friendly).

I will, but eventually. I have a few other things on my todo list before getting around to that, maybe sometime early next year. My plans to make the guest interface would be to use some code from tonyc to get the current playlist (x songs before and after the current one) and then display that with controls to append music to the current playlist. The party interface probably wouldn't work very well unless you could see the current playlist and how many songs were left to play before the playlist ends. Because Hijack doesn't support CGI scripts, I was planning on writing a very small web service to get the current playlist that would run on another port constantly. This could be done by anyone interested, I have some sample code from tonyc for the current playlist I can send.

Make it so.

I have a lot more stuff I should be worrying about and I really don't even know when I'd next need to use that interface, I just thought the whole concept sounded really promising when it was first brought up. I also can't see myself jumping on a Roku or Slim device any time soon for something that's in fact a lot more limited than the empeg. If I've got all the music on my PC, I'll just play it right from the PC (fortunately I have a media PC in the living room already).

The Asus WL-330 or WL-330g might do the trick. Power is a little odd 4 volts 1A.
