I suppose it's not much worse than piercings but the way he talks about it is kind of creepy. He makes it sounds like modding an xbox or something.

Due to limited range, he has to hold is hand quite close to the receiver. Boy, it sure was worth the effort to save the hassle of using your finger to flip the light switch.

Maybe he should have just used either a fingerprint reader or a numeric keypad...

He actually said that he looked into biometrics, and that they were either too expensive, or not reliable enough...

I don't think that this is too far, either. It's pretty cool, especially if he could get other RFID locks to authenticate with it.
The thing is, he's obviously willingly given up his anonymity (or his future anonymity) for convenience's sake, which is fine. "Too far" is when these chips get put in people without them desiring for them to be there in the first place.

Why not just have a fob you can leave in your pocket. I believe the Prius has something like that.

Yep. I asked him about that. He said that he'd lose the fob.
I think he really wanted to try this experiment. If he used a fob, he wouldn't be featured at Maker Faire, right?
Someone has to push the limits. Glad he did.

Yeah, my mom's Lexus has a wireless key. You just have to have it on your person. It's smart enough to know where it is, though, as it will only allow the door where the person holding the key is standing to be unlocked and it won't allow you to lock the car if you leave the key inside.

It's the same with my new Passat, since I have the keyless access option, but I can set it to unlock all the doors, not just just the door where I stand. To start the car the key also have to be inside the car.

They used to be the hosts of G4TV.com, which despite its name was a TV show on...well...G4. As you might expect, it was bad.
