I just got a serial(modem) cable for my PCS phone and I'd like to test it out with the empeg. Nothing fancy, I just want the empeg to connect to my ISP over ppp(serial) and maybe check or send email using a basic, command-line mailer (or even elm/pine/whatever).
What apps/packages do I need to get this going? Do I need to install the entire debian-ARM distro under a /root dir, or can I just find ARM-compiled programs to do the job? It's been years since I did this on slackware in college, so I'm a little rusty.

I think installing the debian arm distro in a chroot environemnt would be the simplest way.
So you dont have to care about library depndencies for some packages.
