Hello all

Just received a used Sempron box from a friend. After some research, it would seem that there are not too many processor options for socket "A" mobos. Most of the processors on eBay right now look pretty bad so I'm wondering if any one around here may have an Athlon XP 3200 that they would like to sell?

Cheers,

John

BTW, some examples of those eBay actions here and here

I have a Athlon 2500+ (1.83GHz, 166MHz DDR Bus x11) running at 3200+ (2.20GHz, 200MHz DDR Bus x11) perfectly fine.
Its a reasonable alternative option if you don't mind spending a bit extra on a bigger heatsink and a decent fan or two.

Btw, there is no way I would bid on either of those auctions!

Cool - maybe I'll look into overclocking then...I have read that AMD chips are relatively easy to bump up. Thanks for the info Sein

Edit: I guess Semprons aren't that great for overclocking after all...so I'm still looking for that Athlon XP

Oh, I don't know. I like the second one, particularly this part of the description"

untested, that it is being sold without warranty, or any other BULL-shhhhhh......AS IS NO RETURNS NO WARRANY, IF U PAY MORE THAN 20 BUCKS FOR THIS CPU YOU ARE F'IN RETARDED

For $16.50 (the winning bid amount) you aren't risking much, and if it works it's a heck of deal. I tend to appreciate auction sellers who are as forthright (and humorous) as this guy.

I'm not sure I understand, is this a socket 939 motherboard? In that case I have an Athlon 3500+.

Hi Gorman

Thank you for your reply. Actually I have a socket "A" (aka 462) mobo and the XP 3200+ was the last and fastest processor that was made for it AFAIK...
