To publish your own map using the google maps api, you have to get a key that is tied to the folder where the map is stored. Taking that same page and loading it on another server, or just calling it as a file from your disk won't work but... If I use "Save Page As" from the browsers file menu, the resulting file is different from the source and does not seem to have a key. But It can be opened from file:///whatever.
