Hi all ,

I have a strange problem with my MK2 (Fiirmware v2.01-final) ethernet port. I tried to upload new music with emplode to the unit when I noticed that I was unable to connect to the player through the LAN anymore. It used to work without any problems for years. The rio car has a statically assigned ip address (192.168.0.13/24).
When I ping the player from my PC I get this :

....

This goes on and on. I already replaced Lan cables and tried to directly link to the PC with a crossed Lan cable, but I still get this time outs. I also connected the rio car to the Lan port of my notebook, but still the same results. The same when I changed the IP address of the player, no help. Also it's not a Firewall issue or anything like that.
It must be something on the ethernet port of the MK2.

Is there anything I can do to fix this or to analyze this further ?

Tnx
Roland

It's possible that there's a hardware issue with the player. Get a serial port log and see if it gives you any errors.

Hm. Don't see anything particularly wrong there at first glance. HOWEVER... You're running 2.01 rather than 2.0. 2.01 is only useful if you've got extra RAM installed. If you don't have extra RAM, try reinstalling 2.0 final and see if that fixes the problem. Dunno whether I should expect it to fix the problem or not (doubt it), but it's worth a try.

Also, did you check the pins on the ethernet port on the player to make sure they hadn't gotten bent or got peanut butter on them?

Peanut butter???

Remember that the empeg only supports 10/Half Duplex. You might want to see if a hub or switch (or your NIC when directly cross-connected) is set to 100/Full or autonegotiate. A thought.

Visually inspect the RJ-45 socket on the back of the empeg, looking for bad/dirty contacts.

Ok I downgraded to 2.0, same problem. I usually use icecream instead of peanut butter ;-) I'll check for the pins and the RJ-45 Socket now. My Switch is a dualspeed one supporting 10/100 HDX/FDX. Like I said it worked with the same setup for years. But anyway Im going to try with a crossed cable and manually set XP to 10HDX.

tnx so far!

Yeah, since you said the same layout worked fine for years, assuming you haven't changed the switch, then that's not likely to be the issue.

You've ruled out the **CABLE** by switching to another known-good cable, right?

And you've ruled out the computer by doing similar ping tests to other devices on the network?

Correct, and I have found the problem... It was a bad port on my switch :-( The switch has been just trashed with a sledgehammer :-) Sorry guys for the hassle !
All working fine now.

Thanks for your kind support.

Hmm but really strange it did not work with a crosslink LAN cable. Does XP need a reboot after setting it to 10HDX ? I did not reboot it :-(

It should not require a reboot to set the speed / duplex. Strange. Was your XP box on the right network space / IP?

Yeah. In your original diagnosis, you said the crossover cable worked but produced the same intermittent timeouts. Which is why I didn't suspect the switch. If that statmement were true, it would have narrowed down the problem to cable, player, or computer, and specifically ruled out the switch. Are you sure those were the exact results you got with the crossover cable?

Yes absolutely. Seems really weired to me. I could reproduce the problem reliably when I put the LAN cable into the bad switch port.
