Heroes
Let me start this one off. Just say the pilot of Heroes and it was pretty much what I expected. Very much influenced by M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable, it's almost as if this is the TV show of the movie, but done as a sequel. No characters carry over, just the concepts.
I loved it. Even though a bunch of it was predictable, the ending was a bit of a surprise. Though in the trailer for the upcoming episodes they sort of deflated the climax somewhat.
This one has been set as a Season Pass.
The other stuff I'm recording this season:
Dramas: Prison Break (it's gotten better but tonight's episode was somewhat weak) Vanished Lost (starts on Wednesday) Weeds (brilliant, the second season just started 3 episodes ago in Canada) L Word (new season premiers this week)
Comedies: How I Met Your Mother My Name is Earl The Office Family Guy American Dad

Crap. I forgot to record Heroes. Fortunately, it looks like it's being rerun on both SciFi and USA.
I enjoyed Studio 60, except for the scene where Matthew Perry bumps into his ex at the studio. That dialogue felt forced. The scene simply shouldn't have been in the pilot, but saved for a few episodes down the road when we (and the actors, I think) knew the characters better.
I'm going to give The Nine and Jericho a shot, but it hasn't come on yet and also forgot to record it, respectively.
Otherwise, I don't think I'm watching anything new this season.

Tonight's studio 60 (second episode) was really fantastic. I think the whole thing with his ex at the studio (in the pilot last week) was fine, and completely in line with everything Sorkin has done in the past. I actually really enjoyed that scene, and all the follow-up scenes related to that storyline in tonight's episode.
Wish I'd known about Heroes... I saw the tail end of it just before S60... looks cool....

In my area at least, it's being rerun on NBC the next night (Tuesday). Check your local listings if (like me) you're interested in getting it in HD.

Excellent! I'm glad you started this thread, Bruno. I'm a big TV watcher, probably more than I should be. Here's what I'm recording this season, in no order other than my memory:
Lost - naturally The Simpsons - I almost feel obligated at this point, but there are still some laughs Bones - one of my "have to watch it because it has a Buffy star in it" (well, technically two, but Hodgins was only in something like two Angel episodes) Jericho - If it does turn out to be about post-terrorist attacks on the US, I don't think I'll be all that interested. Dexter - creepy serial killer show staring the gay brother from Six Feet Under (can't remember the character's name - Michael?). It has this odd tone of a USA show with a much more disturbing premise. It's sort of like "Monk goes on a killing spree" kind of thing. *edit* I should note that this one hasn't aired yet. I saw a sneek preview on the Showtime website. Heroes - I wasn't all that impressed, but pilots are rarely great. Unbreakable was all about the first act of a superhero movie, and this first episode is sort of picking up halfway through that first act, then it looks like the second episode starts the second act. I thought the Japanese kid was pretty sure of his powers considering he hadn't really done anything yet. And why can't the cheerleader do those things she listed to her friend? Did she plan on cutting/burning/bludgeoning herself at the prom? Anyway, I'll keep watching despite the fact that it feels like a 4400 ripoff, especially after that unnecessary prologue at the beginning. Fortunately I forgot about that with the first Ali Larter scene... House - have watched and am watching for Hugh Laurie. The rest of the show is a little below average, IMO. American Dad - don't know why, but it sometimes makes me laugh. I generally work on the computer while watching it. Family Guy - it's had some lulls in the humor this season already. I hope it's not indicative of a trend. Veronica Mars - love it. ER - the premiere was intense. [**SPOILER** if you didn't see the premiere] Spoiler: V'z tynq gurl qvqa'g xvyy Wreel. My Name is Earl - probably my favorite comedy/new show last season. I felt this year's premiere was a little off, though. Mythbusters - great show, as we've established. I loved the breaking of the fingerprint/biometric lock (looks like that's not the way to protect from bump keying). Smallville Weeds - absolutely hilarious, and the episodes just seem to fly by. I still think Kevin Nealon is the funniest person on the show. Numb3rs - not sure why I like this one. I like David Krumholtz as an actor. *edit* Eureka - haven't seen this yet, but I'm curious Supernatural - I was very surprised by this last season. I had zero expectations for a WB show staring two pretty boys from other WB shows and executive produced by a guy named McG who's claim to fame was producing the Charlie's Angels remakes. I was very pleased, though. I felt it was genuinely scary for a network TV show, and is probably the best successor to the X-Files. I also loved the washed-out look it had, and the general gritty, backwoods feel. I can't wait for it to start up again.
Shows that are sort of from this season: Psych - I thought it was funny. Dule Hill is not a good actor, but the chemistry is pretty good between him and the lead. Monk The Dead Zone The 4400
It ticks me off that USA tried this two season a year thing. They started these shows in the summer, ran them for 9-12 episodes, and they're waiting for January to start them up again. I guess they're trying to be the "off-season" network. Anyway, I'll stop before I go into a general rant about how the big networks air their shows (I'll leave it at: Lost should be aired continuously with no breaks).
So that's my list. I look at it all laid out, and I realize that I'm spending waaaay too much time watching TV.
ps-thank goodness I copied and pasted this one while I was working on it. I got that form error...

Damn, I too forgot to record Heroes, but hopefully I'll catch the rerun. To my surprise, I've really enjoyed Studio 60 thus far. All the random "insider" talk is interesting right now, but I'm wondering if it is going to wear thin on me later on. I too thought the dialogue between Mathew Perry and his ex was a bit overdone, but the ending of 2nd show was great.
The Office had an awesome season premier as well -- 30 straight minutes of laughs. Simpsons was funny, Family guy was meh.
I'm really looking forward to Lost. I had totally forgotten about it.

Based on the chatter here, I guess I should add "Heroes" to my TiVo. I'm anxiously awaiting the return of Battlestar Galactica. I'd like to offer a plug for Hustle, a BBC show that's running on AMC -- cleverly written with more twists than any crime show.

Favorite line from episode 2 of studio 60:
"What did I do at Dress?" "You asked for the butter."
(Or something like that. Don't remember the exact words...)

Absolutely! I think it has it's problems, but I love the show. The chemistry between Veronica and her Dad alone makes the show worth watching.

Mythbusters is ok but they should just drop the whole myth thing and call it something else. Yeah the biometric lock thing was neat but what was the myth. They said the myth was the locks could not be tricked I would have thought the other way around but was there really even a myth about those anyway. I'm still happy watching my cheesy sitcom reruns mash, mary tyler moore, mamas family

It's true, they have to stretch their requirements some, but the myth wasn't that the lock couldn't be bypassed (although that was the line the manufacturer gave them). They were analysing movie myths, seeing if they could replicate what you often see in movies. Granted, not exactly a myth, but still interesting IMO.

Oh I agree it is interesting the trying to make everything fit into some kind of myth just drives me nuts. They just need to rename the show to something like breaking and blowing up stuff or something

They consistently screw up the science (even moreso of late) and that's what drives you nuts?

Yeah, I had that problem with that episode as well. I thought their choice of which way to flip the "confirmed/busted" bit was backwards. Although at this point, I don't remember which way they went with it any more.
I seem to recall that it was inconsistent with the other security-device-bypass stuff they did on the very same episode. I seem to recall getting past one security device got a "busted", whereas getting past another security device got a "confirmed". So the episode didn't even have self-consistency, which is what bugged me.
Really, though, it didn't change the nifty testing they did on that episode. I really couldn't care less which of the two welded signs appears at the end of the test, as long as I understood what the tests did.

Much to my disappointment and frustration, it did not start yesterday. It was a wrap-up episode, and an extremely cheesy one at that (where did they find that narrator?). I was very happy to see a new episode of Lost on my Tivo, and disappointed when I saw it wasn't the premiere.
*edit* To clarify, Lost starts Wednesday, October 4th.

I'm pretty sure that was Henry Gale narrating. I didn't think it was too bad, but it still won't help anyone that didn't see the first two seasons.

It looks like the new season of Battlestar: Galactica starts on Friday 06 OCT. That is the only one I'm really waiting for, but Heroes looks like it has some potential.

Battlestar Galacticais the one I'm waiting for as well, and I already bought tickets to go see it. Now I just need to decide how I'm going to see the rest of the season. I don't have any source of TV right now at home, and I'm still debating on if I should subscribe again to something like the Dish HD pachages now that they have MPEG4 receivers, or just spend that monthly subscription fee on buying a DVD box set of shows that I didn't watch 2 years ago.

Any idea if that movie theater is getting a HD feed or a standard-def SciFi channel feed? If it was HD, I might consider driving to Austin for it. (HD episodes of Galactica have been running on Universal HD, but typically months behind their premier on SciFi. If there's some other mechanism to get Galactica in HD, I'd love to know about it.)

It looks like they will just be airing the standard feed off SciFi for it. It's a shame the HD versions are still so delayed on Universal HD still, I guess HD still hasn't become nearly popular enough for such things.
