I'm still using my Rio Central to rip all my new CDs. My discs never even touch the PC any more. They go straight into the Rio Central, it queries Gracenote, and populates the track titles.

Then I open Jemplode, fix all the spelling and capitalization errors, make the Genre something more logical, and fill in the blank "Year" field.

Anyway. Let's say I was an artist about to release a CD of my own. And I want the very first person who walks home with that CD to be able to put it in their computer and have the CDDB entry already populated, with *MY* track titles and genre and year...

... no matter which service they use for their CD data.

It's been years since I ever had to interact with any software that uses this service. What's the best, most reliable, and fastest way to get the Gracenote CDDB populated with my data first, and what other services exist that I might also want to populate? And what is the wait time between the time that I submit the data, and the time that it becomes available to the world in general?

Okay, let's say I just added an entry to the Gracenote CDDB using iTunes. How long after the submission should I expect it to be world-readable?

And, apart from Gracenote, what other CD databases should I populate? Is FreeDB the only other one?

If my Central and a freeDB-lookup won't give me the needed information, i use allmusic.com. I think, tag&rename can use it, but i've never tried. My Central does 99% of the stuff i need. But you know this already...

Does allmusic.com have submissions?

I'm looking at this from the submitter's end, not the ripper's end.

Allmusic has been moderately popular over the past decade, but it's my opinion they could get the site and service to explode by opening it up a bit more. Turning it into a myspace would be a complete disaster of course. But public submission with a bit more control would let them expand and fill in holes much more quickly as well as help build that powerful sense of community that drives the world's top sites (and the sole reason for these sites' top-dollar valuations).

I thought that the CDDB didn't accept submissions from the general public either (since having gone strictly commercial a few years ago).
