I currently have one of these DAB radios in my kitchen:

And I have a Soundbridge in my lounge hooked up to my hifi. This is fed via my wireless LAN from an NSLU2 with an attached hard drive.

What I am looking for it something to replace the DAB radio in the kitchen, but I don't know if what I want actually exists. I want something that is a bit like the DAB radio in looks and functionality, but that also allows me to stream my mp3's to it via my WLAN.

Or, if that isn't available, something that works like the Soundbridge, but also has speaker(s) built in so it's a standalone solution suitable for a small kitchen.

Is there such a thing? If not there surely must be a market for such a device.

There is a range of "Internet radios" listed here:

http://corporate.reciva.com/products_and_technology/radio_products.asp
http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/voyager.html
http://www.shop.bt.com/invt/cch256

I've never used any of them, so I don't know how restrictive they are (i.e. will they all let you play from your own stream or are the tied to whatever website they were designed to pick up their list of streams from), but it is somewhere to start.

One thing to be aware of is that the BBC on stream Radio 4 in Real and not all "Internet radios" can play Real streams.

Can't imagine they'll be streaming in Real for much longer now that MS is in charge of their online media.

It's expensive, but don't Roku make a radio?

No idea how good it is, but it looks cool!

Cheers

I think you have missed the point of what I'm after. I want something that can stream my mp3's over my WLAN. Having a radio too would be a bonus, but I don't think and of the above allow streaming from a local source

EDIT: My bad - the Soundbridge radio seems to do what I wat

Ehhh?

That's exactly what it does, isn't it? It's a soundbridge with speakers and an FM Radio built in, not DAB though. Don't you already have a soundbridge? I assume you already use the server to feed that.

I'm confused.

Edit - Just seen your post above

Cheers

Cris.

Yup, sorry about that. I didn't realise that the Soundbridge Radio is just a soundbridge with a couple of speakers attached to it.

Heck, an empeg (with Hijack) does that.

Only if someone built a cool dock with built in amp and speakers, right? That would be quite a cool dock. Been done.... in a Pelican case, if I remember correctly?

There's also the Logik IR100 - cheap (£99) and a bit plasticky, but it'll stream MP3s and also do all the MP3/WMA/Real streaming (including full access to "Listen again", which is great for us in a different timezone!).

Quite impressed for the price, though it's only mono and the sound isn't as good as the Pure DAB radios.

Had a look at the logic and wasn't keen on the look. This looks better:

And is the same price from comet.co.uk

Nice find! That looks identical to the AE WiFi Radio and half the price.
