Hello All
Just a question in regards to the display...has anyone here ever had one break? I recently had my player shipped cross- country and when I received it, I found that the small closure at the bottom right of the tube was snapped off. This, of course, allowed the vacuum to fill and now the display doesn't work at all. My player is presently on it's way back to the UK to be repaired. Is this a common occurance? It would seem that my luck is holding out as usual, I have had my player for four months and it still has not been enjoyed in my car as of yet

Is this a common occurance?

I don't think it is common. One other bbs user broke his when he misunderstood instructions about how to keep the rotary knob from slipping and epoxied it to the shaft. He broke the display trying to remove the knob to change faceplates.

Bummer for him, I personally wouldn't recommend breaking the thing, It is going to cost a big penny to fix it I'm afraid...It cost me $80 just to ship it back to the UK for starters....

I am in fact, however, I don't think that I will be covered for this particular incident as the player was damaged during a courier shipment...I have already been told that the repair is going to cost me $100 US and I will pay for return shipping too (another $80 CDN)...It would be nice to have it covered under warranty though as I have already spent a bundle on this player so far....maybe Empeg will discover that the tube closure was flawed and replace it gratis?

I remember the "fun" you had getting the player to you in the first place. I empathize. All I can say is that it really is worth it...

Sorry I don't know the background, but..

If the player was damaged during a shipment made by empeg it is insured and you will not have to pay for the repair.

If it was a shipment you made yourself, did you not get insurance from the courier? If you did, we can supply you with a receipt for the repair which you should be able to claim back from your courier.

Hi Rob

Thanks for your reply...Actually it was a shipment I had made (from my parent's place in Nova Scotia to my place in Winnipeg upon my return from Bosnia...) In any case I turned down the insurance at the last minute and....oh well, such is life. It may be worth mentioning that this recent damage may have been augmented by the rough treatment that the player received during the intitial shipment, you will know what I mean when you see the condition of the box, I shipped it back to you in it's original box. You should have the player there at Empeg first thing Moday morning....John

I dropped my mk2 shortly after receiving it.
It hit pretty hard (roughly 1m drop) and that identical thing happened. In future be really careful of how you package it.
Ive heards of worse treatment to the packaging and the player still being fine.

Ouch, sorry to hear that...You should have seen the way my player showed up at my place after my initial shipment...the box was all crushed in and the facia was broken off on one side...I was so amazed to find that it still worked just fine tho...truly a testament to the fine engineering of the electronics..."takes a lickin' and keeps on playin'....
