Ok, I know this has been brought up a billion times before, but when is someone going to put together a page/site of all our installs? I would like to see some examples of nice cars with nice audio installs.

And another thing...Surely I am not the only person in the world who's into classic cars _and_ audio?! Yet I've searched the web for months and can only find decent audio installs in either generic euroboxes or (yikes!) "customised" boyracer hot hatches. Anyone with an intersting older car seems disinterested in quality mobile audio completely. I don't understand it. : (

I think a lot of people posted install descriptions and photos, but with the new BBS display, I would think a lot of them would be lost. This would be a perfect use for the registration feature on the old Developer Site.

I am - trouble is, you need a moderately large income to support both hobbies...

I suspect the reason why "Quality Audio" and "Collectors Cars" don't usually come together is the noise levels - normally, I'm more intested in the engine note than the music (I'm scared something's going to seize/drop off/break etc. and I would like to listen out for it).

Anyway, with the top down, I'd need about 800W/Channel to listen to decent quality above 80 Mph!

Awesome! I never understood the Triumph v. MG thing - they're both British, both old, both fun. I almost bought a GT6 last year. I like how the Mk1's look like rockets! : )

Is she your daily driver?

Not at the moment . This has something to do with brakes and steering rack(don't ask - long story); however, since I get an extra day off work next weekend, I'm going to be working on the Mini, the Renault and especially Gail (if you lived in Holland, you'd understand the joke ), with the emphasis on Gail.

I had the chassis completely rebuilt last summer, but up to that pont I was driving her in to work every day, even in winter, with the top down. I got stopped by the coppers on the way in to work when it was persisting down one day. Conversation went like this:

"Hello sir, do you know you're driving with the top down?"

{me, getting very wet all of a sudden} "Yes, officer"

"Is there a reason for this?"

"No, I just like fresh air. Is that all officer? I'm getting wet!"

"No, I just thought I'd tell you!"

{me} "????"

Eh????? The guy must have been bored. I ended up with wet pants for the rest of the day

P.S. The Triumph versus MG thing was just inter-departmental rivalry within British Leyland - it sold more cars, of course....

there was a guy that hung out a while ago that had a really nice old truck with a mark 1 in it. great looking install, but i can't remember who it was. i have seen him posting on the mp3car.com bbs every once and a while.

i thought that laura had an empeg in a nice old nova, but again, i can't be sure.

I don't know if you can call my old truck a classic or not, but as far as I know it is the oldest vehicle with an empeg in it (1949).

I would like to include such a section in the next update of the Geek Site. I will email a request for information over the next few days.

If you want, the code for the logo site could easially be changed to provide this service. I don't want to host this though until I get a more stable connection, so if anyone wants, I can prep the code for transport to a loving PHP/MySQL home.

The backend has an easy to use approval/rejection process to prevent inapporiate items from being shown to the public. It also requires approval of any description changes as well.

No, I never got together enough money to put an empeg in my Nova. It still has nothing in it, not even a radio. I still read the posts once in awhile to see what has been going on but I kind of dropped off from being active on this board.

Laura

I live to launch.

Well, there is the Pimpmobile. I suspect that's not the sort of "interesting" you were after, though.

You're absolutely right. As long as you keep motoring you stay nice and dry.

I have a rule that never drive my fun car on days when I need to put on the top. When I park it outside I throw a cover on it to keep out the sun/rain/pollen/birdsh*t. I hate to admit it, but the cover is easier to toss on than the weird tri-folding targa top (my first car, a $500 914/4 had a better top!). Anyway, I occaisonally get caught in the rain and get the strangest looks-- never yet pulled over, though.

Two things come to mind about old cars and empegs. Many classic enthusiasts don't want to spoil the originallity of their car by cutting all the speaker holes you need to make it sound good. Cars from the 60's back NEVER had nice speakers. My '84 didn't have good speaker mounts, but luckily Porsches evolve very slowly so I was able to put in the door panels of a '90 model which had multiple speakers holes. I really enjoy the way my car looks completely stock yet has a 18GB Linux box in it. The fascia even matches the color of my dash, especially with the "Carrera" boot logo.

If empeg could manage to just get a single dash shot of everyone that has purchased a unit so far, it would go a long way in terms of advertising. Rio could really get that "sold thru" look with a whole shitload of pics. Not to mention it would have a nice nostalgic aspect for all of us early adopters.

I'll be glad to take this over. I've got the room for it, and the bandwidth. Plus, I'm a PHP/MySQL freak, so I can maintain, and change/add anything that people may want.

Let me know.

Yep! A install site with pics would be fine! I'd like to post some pics of my install, too..

Ok, if your willing to host it, thats great. I'll have to go in and finish some of the things on my todo list first, then get with you on getting the site up and running.

Oh, Rob, do we have your logo blessing for this site? (Both empeg and Rio?)

I just thought about this... I actually have full control of a friends server on a T1 that I could easially host this, and the existing logo site on. (/me slaps himself for not thinking of this earlier). I'll probably be moving the logo site over there, then begin work on the install site. The logo site I'll keep at the existing DNS name to keep things easier. Now to think up the DNS name for the install site...

Are you asking if you can put the default logos there? I don't see why not, but the person who can speak officially on such matters now is Tim ([email protected]).

Ok, I'll go ahead and talk to him. I'm just making sure using the logos is ok, just like I did on the logo site.
