My (now sold) empeg currently has 2 x 18Gb hard drives in it. It's new owner has asked me to upgrade one of the drives to a 120Gb drive that he has provided me with.

Does it matter if this bigger drive becomes the primary or secondary drive? I'm not fussed about losing what is on the existing drives as they will be wiped anyway - what is the best (and/or easiest) configuration?

Would it not make more sense to stick with just the 120GB drive, rather than putting an 18GB drive in as well. That way there is only one drive to fail and therefore less chance of failure in future.

Or does he really need that extra 18GB ?

No.

Putting *only* the 120 gig drive in place (leaving the 18 gig drives completely out of the equation), running Mark's bigdisk builder on it, and putting Mark's 2.0 bigdisk player software in place.

Carefully follow the instructions in the drive upgrade guide, following the parts that talk about "complete replacement of the primary disk drive".

After you're done, make sure that you can successfully synch a few tunes to the player before you turn it over to its new owner.

Ok, thanks guys. I'll take out the two existing drives and just stick the big drive in there.

All done.

The 2.1 big disk formatter didn't work, but Tony's one did

Carefully follow the instructions in the drive upgrade guide,

"If you open your player to upgrade the disk drives, it will void your warranty."
