All this talk about older vehicles got me wondering, can anyone beat my ratio?

Car worth NZ$500
empeg NZ$2500
amp NZ$400
alarm NZ$250

empeg:car ratio 5:1
total accessory ratio 6.3:1

hmm, forgot radar detector NZ$800

total accessory ration 7.9:1

Lets see:

Car: $17,000
Empeg: $1,300
Amp: $200
GPS: $100

empeg:car 13:1
electronics:car 11:1
Mine goes the other way quite a bit

But, if we look at my Mark 1 and car, it's different

Car: $200
Empeg: $1200
Amp: $200
Speakers: $200

empeg:car 1:6
electronics 1:8

It was a cheap car, and well, for all the pain and hassle, I abandoned it when it decided to strand me. There is a point where cheap is too cheap and turns into an expensive mess. 2 days later I pulled up next to it to grab the amp and such in my new car.

Down the road I might think of getting a better car, but for now with my age and insurance, well, I'll put it this way: That new car above costs me as much a month in insurance as it does in car payments. Anything more expensive and I really would have needed a very well paying job, instead of the well paying one I have now.

Hmmm... I think I can beat that. 1986 Ford Taurus Station Wagon, 180,000 miles.

$ 550 (trade-in ("book") value of car)
=======
$ 550 (value of car)
.
.
$1600 (18 GB empeg)
$ 550 (2@PPI amplifiers)
$ 515 (5@ MB Quart speakers)
$ 185 (Orion Subwoofer)
$ 200 (Cabling, distribution blocks, L-Pads, etc.)
$ 500 (Valentine One Radar detector w/accessories)
$ 250 (Alarm system)
$ 400 (Installation charges and custom work for above)
========
$4200 (Value of accessories)
.
.
Ratio of accessories to value of car: 7.6:1

Nope -- you have me beat! But not by very much... If I threw in my $39 set of custom hubcaps and my cold weather accessories (block heater, oil pan heaters, trickle charger, and electric interior heater -- about $125 worth) then I'd be ahead.... or is that behind?
