The Greenlights website has to move, but I'm not sure where to.

My least favorite communications company ever, Sprint/Embarq, has decided to no longer use Earthlink as their ISP/portal. They're forcing all users to switch to Synacor with Embarq branding. Unfortunately, free webspace is not being offered at the new ISP/portal.

This means, after 10/31/07, http://home.earthlink.net/~greenlights/ will be inaccessible. I really wish I could just buy greenlights.com from the squatters, but that'll probably never happen. I started looking at Google Pages, but I can't directly upload my existing HTML.

So, the site will be in transition. If anyone has a bright idea for scoring greenlights.com, I'd love to hear it. Or maybe GoDaddy has some low cost hosting option. I've got a month to work it out.

Godaddy is as cheap as $4/ month. Or you can add a dir under one of my web sites for nothing...

I suppose I could host it at riocar.net. PM me for details.

For now, I'll pay Earthlink to stay with them. But I really want to buy the greenlights domain name. Does anyone have experience in buying domain names from squatters?

Ooo - I hadn't visited Filener in ages (note to admins - the link at the top of the page can be changed now they have moved) and I like the nifty engraved icons round the lenses, as well as the engrave your name option...could help in terms of identification etc.

Very cool - and an excuse to get yet more colours!

I get so furious just thinking about how squatters have snatched up the domain name space. I can hardly bring myself to think about trying to buy the domain name I want from them. Instead, I'll put that effort into moving the site to GooglePages, where I already have the "domain" name.

Have you noticed how you can go to some of those domain name checking sites, Type in a name, find it is unclaimed, then check again later and find that the name has been squatted.
