What's special about it?

I thought Ridley got this out of his system when the DVD release was the "director's cut" without the narration and such.

Did they pull a Lucas and update all the special effects or something?

I have to say, when I first heard its title during its theatrical run a few months ago, my first thought was that the title should have also contained the words "... I promise."

Reading up on it, I see that the problem was the "Director's Cut" wasn't actually Ridley's... he didn't have much of anything to do with it. So I can see how he'd want to release a final definitive version of his own.

On the other hand, from what I've read, the differences are small and mostly atmospheric.

The documentary disc, though, might be worth the price of admission for the 2-disc set.

Really, the only thing I would have changed from the Director's Cut release would have been to digitalize-out the wires on the flying cars. That's the only thing that ever bugged me about the film in the first place, otherwise I thought it was perfect. I don't hear any mention about that kind of lucasing in any of the reviews though.

That's because Ridley is actually a talented director, as opposed to a guy who lucked out with one movie that became a hit and made him rich enough to pump out the rest of the garbage that he does.

I'm only 2 hours into the 3+1/2 hour documentary and it's really interesting.

<wikipedia>During Deckard's pursuit of Zhora, Joanna Cassidy's face has been digitally superimposed over that of the stunt double. This scene was re-filmed specifically for the Final Cut. Although great detail had been placed replacing stunt double Lee Pulford's face with Cassidy's, the tan-colored protective suit Pulford wore to protect against glass cuts is still visible.</wikipedia>

Think that's the closest it gets to Lucasing.

I also didn't know that Daryl Hannah's stunt double in the scene where she tries to kill Deckard was actually a bloke!

Hey All, Merry X-Mas! I today got the HD-DVD 5 disc set of The Blade Runner Final Cut and am going through the "Enhancement Archive" DVD. I'm amazed. If you are a fan of Blade Runner - man, you have to get this set!

Is this making you question certain things?

Just don't tell me that Elle Macpherson was born a man or I may need some counseling.
