Hi all,

I have an RFP from a local company who wants a 10 to 15 minute informational video created.

The RFP has a tight timeline and requests three references. I have done some small stuff for myself and I know that this won't be too difficult of a project to tackle. My main issue is that I don't have the time to do it myself with the tight timeline, a two-year old and moving into a new house.

If anyone on the board has video creation experience (with examples available to view) and would like to act as a partner in this production (and possibly more in the future) please PM or email me. (rene at conneriver com)

I would act as the company doing the video on this end and you, whoever you may be, will be paid directly by me via Paypal.

Credit for this work will be given appropriately. Nothing to hide. Unless you want to hide and simply receive a cash payment. wink

I will be collecting all materials and ftping them to you for the video editing part.

Any other terms we would work out after I find a partner.

Thanks for any interest!
Rene

P.S. I should be able to get some samples of what they want to model this after as well as a narrator.

Sounds like an interesting project.

Have you thought about doing it all yourself?

I used iMovie 08 and iDVD 08 this weekend to knock together a 10 minute video for someone, I would say it took my 4 hours to edit 45 minutes of footage and output to DVD and YouTube. For basic editing it is hard to beat the iLife software. This time also included outputting a 5 minute slideshow from iPhoto and building it into the DVD.

You can see the results here, not impressive from a content point of view, but that wasn't your question I guess, iMovie is turning into a powerful and user friendly package that does what it says it will.

There is no apple branding on the final output, IMO it looks very pro and it's worth taking a look at.

Cheers

Cris.

I hope to be able to afford to buy myself an iMac out of this project... but I have to get this project first. smile

Great suggestion though.

I would buy it up front on Visa etc...

It will be a good buy if you are going into this sort of thing.

I bet you could edit it together in the time it takes to ftp to someone and back, you are also able to make changes if the client doesn't like anything.

Is there an Apple store anywhere near you? I saw someone having a really good demo of iMovie last time I was in an Apple store, and within just a few minutes the customer was putting footage together.

Another plus of iMovie is that it will edit HD. I shot that on a Panasonic HDC-SD1 so could quite happily output at 1080i on my MacBook (to quicktime not BlueRay or anything fancy) perfect if they are going to be using it on a big plasma etc...

Cheers

No Apple dealers anywhere within 6 hours drive of here. I ordered a iMac for someone for their kid for Christmas and it took two weeks to get here. So it would be hard for me to place a proposal based on a piece of equipment that I won't have for a couple of weeks after I am accepted for the proposal.

Not to mention that I don't have any references other then friends who I've put together videos for.

The proposal has to be submitted by Jan. 18th, with a project deadline of 6 weeks. Information collected and DVD completed.

Wow! That is pretty tight.

I would offer to help, but I am in the UK (not ideal) and have just started a new job so I am putting everything into that at the moment. Also my experience probably isn't much more than yours.

Cheers

I've got a mac that I might be able to borrow/rent for a while. It's a brand spanker with Leopard on it.

With the stock software that comes with a Mac could I do professional quality DVDs? I seem to remember reading that the movie software had been dumbed down a bit in the newest versions.

Thanks!

The DVDs my brother makes with his Mac all have a subtle but huge Apple logo watermarked into the menu screen, presumably for the sole purpose of "encouraging" aspiring authors of professional quality DVDs to fork out for "professionally"-priced authoring tools.

Good to know about the apple logo. Fortunately this DVD won't need a menu. Put it in and play.

I found some tutorials on the mac website... hopefully they will give me a good idea of what I can and can't do.

That's easy to get rid of, Select iDVD > Preferences > "General" Tab > Deselect "Show Apple logo Watermark"

If it's a simple video I have found the output from the codec pretty good if you select Pro in the options.

Cheers

I was able to get rid of the logo as described above. Unfortunately I didn't get the contract. Working on selling one of our pcs now to get a MacBook refurb. to start playing with. If I can come up with some decent videos as samples using iMovie 6 then I might be able to luck into some future work.

Thanks for your time!
