I was going to take apart a spare empeg today to rob the small harddrive out of it, then install it in a older p3 laptop.

Well.... Everything was going well but the rotary knob would not just pull off like it should. Its like it was seized on there. So after a few trys I stopped and grabbed my 3rd and final spare, robbed the hd from it and left the other alone. I didn't want to break it.

Any ideas on how to get that rotary knob off easier? Lots of these screws and stuff are tighter than a virgin on these players.....

Try warming it gently with a hairdryer?

What's wrong with a kiss, boy? Hmm? Why not start her off with a nice kiss?

Jesus this knob was all jacked up!!!

Whoever owned this empeg before me glued the rotary knob onto the rotary encoder!! Then not only did they glue it on, they put some kind of metal ring around it

Very bizarre and weird!! I had to break the knob off with my teeth literally to get to the metal ring. Then I bent the metal ring enough to slide it off.

THEN broke the knob off the rest of the way piece by piece. Lucky I have spare buttons from firefox superset and nothing was broke.

Why on earth someone would do this to an empeg is beyond me.

Maybe they thought their knob was slipping on the rotary encoder, causing those jumps in the volume. They didn't realize that it was the encoder itself. An empeg my friend bought had the same problem and glued knob, so he got the encoder replaced. Eutronix did it quite well.

the weird thing is.... the encoder seems to work fine. i've been testing is because i was worried i myself could've damaged it before i noticed it was glued on.....

Anyhow I'm just glad it works and nothing is broke.... Someone just abused this player. The VFD had chips in 2 corners of the glass. Nothing you can see unless taken apart but still.. Then 1 screw is missing that holds the vfd/buttons front board in place... The other 3 screws are tight and holding it in place..

Glad this is just a spare!
